‘Ted Lasso,’ ‘Lupin,’ ‘Hacks’ Make TCA Awards Nominees List Stand Out
The nominees are in, and the critics have spoken. You may or may not be familiar with Omar Sy, the lead actor in Lupin for Netflix. But let this serve as a beacon. It’s one of the best thrillers on the streamer.
Thanks to the Television Critics Association list of nominees, it should be on your queue for catching up (it is in season 2 now).
The Television Critics Association (TCA) has a fresh list for their 37th annual TCA Awards. And the list reflects the best in TV, from broadcast to streaming and everything in between.
Netflix has the lion’s share with 15 nominations. Apple TV+’s heartwarming and hilarious Ted Lasso has five nominees thanks to Jason Sudeikis and a cast of brilliant actors who sell this fish-out-of-water sports comedy as something so much more.
The nominees for the Television Critics Association (TCA)
The 37TH Annual TCA Awards is the deliberation of 200 TCA members, professional television critics, and journalists from the United States and Canada.
There are 13 distinct categories, including drama, comedy, miniseries, youth, news and information, reality, and variety, sketch or talk shows, among others.
Categories feature eight nominees each, except for “Outstanding Achievement In Variety, Talk Or Sketch,” which has nine.
This year’s nominations roster is dotted with an unprecedented number of first-year programs.
Of note is Apple TV+’s eight nominations courtesy of the acclaimed freshman breakout comedy Ted Lasso, which leads all nominees. In addition, the series features Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham, an American football coach’s career pivot in England with a soccer team trying to rebuild its status.
“This was an incredible year for fresh, inclusive content and new creators, and our nominations are a reflection of that,” said Melanie McFarland, TCA President in a press release. “The TCA membership selected from a wealth of original offerings that broke fresh ground and presented exciting, thought-provoking experiences that redefined the television landscape. Although we will not be able to honor these landmark achievements in person, we look forward to celebrating 37 years of the TCA Awards and sharing our top picks when the winners are unveiled.”
