‘60 Minutes’ Chief Tanya Simon Could Lose Role In Possible Shakeup
Tanya Simon has had a long history with 60 Minutes, with the show even having an important place in her family’s history. However, insiders have claimed that she could soon be leaving the show. These sources also hinted at what this could mean for the show at large.
Tanya Simon Previously Made History As The First Woman To Oversee 60 Minutes
Tanya first started working as a researcher for CBS News’ 48 Hours in 1996. Towards the end of the decade, she became an associate producer for 60 Minutes. Eventually, she rose to the position of executive editor on the show. She is also the first woman to oversee the show.
Notably, Tanya has a family tie to the show. Her father, the late Bob Simon, had worked as a 60 Minutes correspondent. He was still working with the show at the time of his death in 2015 following a Manhattan car crash.

That said, Tanya could soon lose her position on the show later this year. This could happen if CBS News executives decline to renew a one-year deal that gave her the job.
The news was shared by Variety, which cited “three people” familiar with the situation. As the outlet noted, this could increase concerns following the ongoing changes at CBS News following the installation of Bari Weiss as editor-in-chief.
Simon Wasn’t The Only Figure That Sources Were Worried Might Soon Leave The Show
The outlet also shared that a person with no previous ties to the show could be put in charge of 60 Minutes. It was noted that this could be a first in the show’s history. For the time being, Tanya has a multi-year contract in place with CBS News. However, Paramount only agreed to her role as an executive producer for a year. The company may have wanted to avoid making long-term plans in the midst of planning the Skydance merger.
One insider claimed that some TV contracts have 52-week “cycles.” These clauses allow the network, and sometimes the employee, to give several weeks’ notice, such as 8 to 12 weeks, if they are considering a reassignment. As the outlet shared, “Even so, the fact that Simon was only given a year to officially fill the position and could have to vacate it at a tricky time in the program’s existence has staffers uneasy.”

Tanya isn’t the only figure that insiders are concerned over. It had been noted that 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi could also lose her job with her contract soon reaching its end. This also already follows other figures leaving the network over the past year. Back in February, for example Anderson Cooper announced leaving the show after nearly two decades.
