Jesse Palmer had a really embarrassing mistake when he was The Bachelor. He famously said the wrong name of a contestant when handing out roses. The former NFL player didn’t find love that season but returned to the franchise as host after Chris Harrison’s exit. It turns out that The Bachelorette is actually more dangerous than people think. Keep reading for all the details about the Bachelor Nation host’s near-death experience while filming.

Jesse Palmer Recalls Near-Death Incident While Filming Bachelorette

In addition to hosting the ABC shows, Jesse Palmer also hosts on the Food Network and Bachelor Mansion Takeover on HGTV. But one of his scariest moments was during a Bachelorette season. He opened up recently about a near-death experience while filming the show.

Jesse Palmer chatted with Parade magazine earlier this month about all things Bachelor Nation. He shared two of the craziest things that ever happened to him while filming. The host was once bitten by a dog on the beach. And then there’s the time he almost died while filming The Bachelorette.

The near-death experience happened during Season 20. Charity Lawson and her final three men headed to Fiji for Fantasy Suite dates. Charity [Lawson] and Dotun [Olubeko] had this amazing one-on-one date on this secluded little island in the middle of the water. I watched them on their date and thought about how I’d love to just go out there by myself and spend a couple hours on that beach when we were done filming,” Jesse Palmer began the story of the time he almost died.

He continued, “So I went out there. But then the storm blew in, and the tide started climbing up onto the beach—to the point where the beach almost got completely covered by the ocean. I’m just out in the middle of the ocean, and there’s nothing there. And I thought to myself, I’m just going to have to tread water and hope a boat comes by and picks me up.”

Luckily, a boat did come and rescue him. Charity Lawson got engaged to Dotun Olubeko during the final rose ceremony. They’re getting married this summer.

What He’s Said About Taylor Frankie Paul’s Season

The interview with Parade magazine was partly to promote Taylor Frankie Paul’s season of The Bachelorette. It was supposed to premiere on March 22, but ABC pulled it at the last minute after a shocking video came out about a domestic violence incident in 2023 between her and her ex, Dakota Mortensen.

Many Bachelor Nation stars have spoken out about the cancellation. Jesse Palmer has stayed quiet. However, he told Parade magazine earlier this month that Taylor Frankie Paul was a “wild card” during filming.

“Taylor is an absolute wild card, and I mean that in the best way possible. As a host, I never knew what she was going to do or say,” he said. ABC yanked The Bachelorette, but some fans think they’ll air it eventually.
