Elderly Texas Woman Suffers Gruesome Geese Attack
Animals can attack, and when that happens, it can be a terrifying and life-changing moment. Oftentimes, these attacks come from dogs, coyotes, alligators, crocodiles, snakes, or bears. Yet, in this most recent situation, the most unlikely creature turned on an elderly woman. It all occurred on December 1st in Royse City, Texas, at a park where seventy-two-year-old Lydia West was feeding ducks. It was supposed to be a special moment for her, something that she relished and often did. Unfortunately, this day took a turn when the geese hovered over Lydia in order to chow down on the food she was giving the ducks.

Lydia’s son shared the gruesome details of the attack and what his mother went through when the geese came down. He noted that she became pinned to the ground, which caused intense injuries, something no one could have anticipated:
“She was feeding the little ducks, and large geese came up to her and started attacking the food, and she fell hard. And she was trapped on the ground, unable to move.”
Fortunately for Lydia, what went down was seen by others in the park who were able to get rid of the geese. Then they proceeded to call the cops and get help to the scene. Being that she is very small and slight, this broke her in many ways. The Texas woman ended up in a trauma center for fractures in her pelvis and internal bleeding.
Lydia will need to learn how to walk all over again, as well as undergo PT for her severe injuries. This is serving as a cautionary tale for all park visitors to be cautious when it comes to feeding. Plus, they should be aware of the geese and how territorial yet violent they can be.
Never Should Have Happened
Some followers of this story had heard of things like this happening and that these feedings were no longer allowed. They added that Lydia West may have been in violation by doing what she did. However, others were just grateful she was seen and got the help that saved her life:
- Poor woman. wishing you a quick recovery!
- Geese are wild animals. They are strong, you need to give them their space and if feeding them, put the food down and walk away.
- Geese are territorial, they are known to hurt people, when I was a child I was attacked by one.
It does seem like Canadians have been warned to stay away from geese as they have aggressive temperaments. Clearly, Lydia was just being kind to the ducks and never felt something like this could or would ever happen.
