‘GMA’ Braces For Major Change As Execs Hunt For Younger Hosts
GMA is reportedly bracing for major changes after a shocking fall in ratings. The show’s executives are rumored to be on the hunt for younger hosts after a secret meeting. Keep reading for more details on what’s in store for viewers.
GMA Execs Panic Amid Ratings Shocker
Good Morning America viewers who watch the show on YouTube Live were shocked in early November when they couldn’t watch the show anymore. A contract dispute between Disney (which owns ABC) and Google (which owns YouTube) left many channels dark on YouTube TV beginning the night before.

ABC shows, including Dancing With The Stars and the daytime soap General Hospital, were hit hard by the blackout. GH fell to fourth place in the ratings behind the new CBS soap Beyond The Gates.
The network’s morning news program also suffered a shocking loss of ratings. GMA has dominated the ratings for years. But NBC’s Today Show took the top spot for the month of November, likely due to the YouTube blackout.
ABC Morning Show Braces For Major Changes
Morning television is changing in ways viewers didn’t expect. NBC, CBS, and ABC have all made changes to their hosting lineup over the last few years. Gayle King is reportedly out at CBS Mornings in May 2026. The move is allegedly in response to budget cuts sweeping CBS after a merger between its parent company, Paramount Global, and Skydance Media.

The National Enquirer reported that the executives at ABC were so panicked over the ratings loss that they held a secret meeting. The meeting was described as “absolute meltdown mode” by an insider. GMA moved to a pricey new studio earlier this year in Hudson Square, New York City.
The executives allegedly discussed revamping the GMA hosting lineup for “fresh” energy. Longtime hosts Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos are beloved by viewers. But the source claimed that not even the veterans are safe from the chopping block. “If leadership wants a shake-up, nobody is safe,” the source said.
The insider alleged that the network is considering a dramatic overhaul to the lineup of anchors, the editorial direction of GMA and bringing in “fresh, younger energy” to put the show back in the top spot.
Staffers at NBC’s Today were reportedly “gleefully” watching GMA struggle in the ratings after the YouTube TV blackout. But now that the issue is resolved, the ratings could go back to the ABC show leading the pack of morning news programs.
According to multiple outlets, GMA hosts George Stephanopoulos and Michael Strahan recently signed new contracts. Robin Roberts’s contract is reportedly up for renegotiation soon. Tell us in the comments if you want to see “fresh” faces on the ABC morning show, or if they should stick with the current hosts.
