Jimmy Kimmel Live! was abruptly pulled from the air on Wednesday, September 17, for the host’s comments about Charlie Kirk’s murder. The shocking punishment sparked discussions everywhere about the right to free speech… except on The View.
The ladies did eventually address the situation, but many viewers thought it was too little, too late. Jimmy Kimmel Live! was back on the air within a week. The View co-hosts praised Jimmy Kimmel’s words about the suspension.
“What I loved was that Jimmy Kimmel made this bigger than himself. That line was key to me: ‘The show is not important. What is important is that we live in a country that allows us to have a show like this.’ He talked about his staff of 200 people multiple times, fellow late-night hosts who’ve come under threat,” Alyssa Farah Griffin said.
Whoopi Goldberg Explains Sara Haines & Joy Behar’s Absences
The View has six co-hosts. But only four – Whoopi Goldberg, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, and Alyssa Farah Griffin – showed up to work on Monday. Whoopi Goldberg, who has been the moderator on the talk show since 2007, didn’t take long to address the absences.
As longtime viewers know, Mondays are Joy Behar’s regular days off from the talk show. Whoopi Goldberg takes Fridays off. But Sara Haines usually works on Mondays.
She had a patriotic reason for missing work. Whoopi Goldberg explained that Sara Haines had jury duty, which earned groans from the audience. Alyssa Farah Griffin chimed in to say that her co-host might be picked for the trial.
“Well, let’s not wish that on her,” Whoopi Goldberg cracked. Jury duty is one of the most dreaded civic duties for many Americans.
Multiple outlets reported that Sara Haines moved to Short Hills, New Jersey, with her husband and kids a few years ago. The View films in New York City, which is close, but not close enough to film the show and appear for jury duty on the same day.
Whoopi Goldberg didn’t reveal when Sara Haines will return to The View. It depends on whether she’s chosen to sit on the jury for the entire trial or not.
