As viewers are now seeing, a young mother in Austin, Texas, recently left her newborn baby in a dumpster, and commenters hearing about this situation for the first time are, understandably, horrified. It is estimated that more than 100 cases of public abandonment happen every year, and this situation in Austin is certainly one to add to that statistic.

Austin Mother Abandons Baby In Dumpster, What Happened?
Based on the latest news making the rounds, a 22-year-old woman named Neli Dinora Rivera-Felipe was arrested after dumping her newborn baby girl in a dumpster in Austin, Texas. She dumped the baby in a bin at an apartment complex off of North Lamar.
The good news is that the baby was found and recovered. Unfortunately for Neli Dinora Rivera-Felipe, she is being charged with felony child endangerment and abandonment. While this is certainly a tragic situation, the good news is that the baby was recovered, as this situation could have ended much worse.
Neighbors heard the baby crying in the dumpster, which is what alerted them to the fact that the baby was there. According to interviews shared on Facebook about the unfortunate situation, one neighbor said that the umbilical cord was still there as well. Many suspect that the woman in question had the baby and then dumped her overnight.
The mother claims that she thought the baby was “lifeless,” and she is currently being held on a $50k bond.
