Arlington, Texas, Woman Dead After Domestic Violence Incident
Frederick Spears was arrested on September 17, 2025, on the charge of aggravated assault involving family violence. He allegedly held his stepson, Ashton Spears, at knifepoint.
A few days later, Frederick Spears allegedly killed his estranged wife, Mary Spears. The suspect bonded out and was released from jail the day after his initial arrest. The courts approved a strict restraining order that prevented him from entering his estranged wife’s home or having any contact with her or his stepson.

He ignored that restraining order with the help of the Arlington police department.
Police Gave Suspect A Ride Home Before Fatal Stabbing
Statistically, you’re more likely to be killed by a family member or someone you know than by a stranger. But it’s pretty uncommon for the police to drive your murderer to your house and drop them off without a second thought.
That’s what happened to Texas resident Mary Spears.
Her estranged husband, Frederick Spears, wasn’t supposed to be at her house at all. But in a massive blunder, he got a ride from the jail to Mary’s home from the very police that were meant to protect her.
The suspect told the police that he needed a ride to his estranged wife’s home to retrieve his vehicle. Instead, he allegedly killed her. She was found days later, stabbed to death in the backyard. Her estranged husband was arrested for her murder.

Police Department Under Investigation
According to local news station KTVT, the police are investigating how the fatal mistake happened and reviewing their policies to prevent it from ever happening again. But it’s too late for Mary Spears.
Her stepson told the news that he’s still processing his mother’s death, but wants people to remember her kindness, not her horrible death.
Social media users who read about the case didn’t hold back in their comments about the incident. Check out some of what people had to say:
- “So they escorted him to the crime? Charge them as accomplices”
- “This is why dv is so dangerous. Even with the police involved there’s still a huge risk of not making it out alive. This is so sad!”
- “The police thought he was a good ol boy smh they never protect women”
- “The cops involved need to be named they should not be allowed to hide their identity when they violate the law. They enable that man to violate a protective order after binding out how incompetent is that”
The Arlington police haven’t revealed any disciplinary action against the officers involved in taking Frederick Spears to his estranged wife’s home.
