Colorado Police Open Fire, Kill Teen In Gas Station Shooting
In a sad turn of events recently in Colorado, a teen suspect called 911 and made threats to shoot up a local business, leading to a fatal confrontation with responding officers. So, what happened with this situation, and what else do we know about it?
Colorado Teen Calls 911, Threatens Local Business
Many shows on television these days dramatize the real-life situations that police officers must deal with on a regular basis as part of the job. A recent situation in Colorado unfolded with real-life drama, as a 17-year-old suspect threatened to open fire on a local business.
The teen suspect phoned in a 911 call, in which he threatened to “open fire inside a business.” This business in question was going to be in the 200 block of South Havana Street in Aurora, Colorado. If that were not bad enough, the teen suspect also “threatened to shoot at” responding officers.

Standoff With Authorities Leads To Fatal Shooting
Initially, the “believed to be” 17-year-old suspect ignored instructions to “show hands.” This led to police firing rubber bullets at the suspect. However, these did not stop him. There were three responding officers at the scene. Following the firing of these rubber bullets, the suspect then charged at the officers.
This led to one of the officers firing at the suspect and killing him. What makes this look even worse, however, is that the suspect did not appear to be armed, and there was no weapon located.
Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain told reporters of the incident, “At this time, there has been no weapon that’s been located. So what we had was the threat of a weapon. We had the actions of somebody who (said he) had a weapon. But there was no weapon and that is what the officer had to contend with.”

What Is Happening In The Aftermath Of Fatal Shooting?
Whenever a situation like this comes up, especially when it turns fatal, people have a lot of questions. It turns out, the officer who fatally shot the teen suspect has been placed on administrative leave while “an outside law enforcement agency investigates this police shooting,” according to NBC News.
Speaking of the officer who fatally shot the suspect, Chamberlain said that in situations like this, there is not much time to react, especially to a potentially deadly situation. Chamberlain said of the incident, “All of those things, again, they don’t happen in days. They unfortunately happen in seconds.”
Chamberlain continued, adding, “At first we had to address the potential of the violence attached. And that potential was an individual who stated that he was going to shoot up a business that he was basically going to become an active shooter.”
