President Trump Makes Multi-Billion Dollar Defamation Announcement

In an unexpected move, President Trump announced on social media late Monday night, September 15, that he filed a lawsuit against a huge news outlet. He wrote on Truth Social that he filed a lawsuit against the New York Times and publisher Penguin Random House for defamation and libel.

He’s seeking $15 billion in damages. The suit accuses the Times of publishing false and damaging stories ahead of the 2024 election. The 85-page lawsuit claims that the stories damaged President Trump’s reputation and business.

New York Times Company, reporters Susanne Craig, Russ Buettner, Peter Baker, and Michael S. Schmidt are named in the lawsuit. Penguin Random House, which published the 2024 book “Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father’s Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success,” was also named in the suit.

According to Fox News, the lawsuit alleges that President Trump had to face “persistent election interference from the legacy media.” At the center of the lawsuit is the New York Times‘ 2024 endorsement of Kamala Harris.

“Their Endorsement of Kamala Harris was actually put dead center on the front page of The New York Times, something heretofore UNHEARD OF,” the President wrote on Truth Social.

“The New York Times has been allowed to freely lie, smear, and defame me for far too long, and that stops, NOW,” he vowed.

One Of Many Lawsuits Against The Press

President Trump has had a contentious relationship with the media for years now. His lawsuit against the NYT isn’t the first time he held the press accountable and it probably won’t be the last.

Most recently, President Trump won lawsuits against CBS and ABC. ABC settled the lawsuit for $15 million, which will go as a donation to a future library or foundation in President Trump’s name.

The lawsuit and settlement came after George Stephanopoulos said incorrectly on air that Trump was found liable for rape in a lawsuit filed by E. Jean Carroll. The jury found President Trump guilty of sexual abuse, not rape.

CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global, agreed to pay $16 million to settle a lawsuit over an interview with Kamala Harris in 2024. President Trump sued the network, claiming the interview was edited to interfere with the election.

In July, President Trump filed a $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal and owner Rupert Murdoch. The outlet published an article claiming that Trump sent a birthday note with a lewd image to Jeffrey Epstein. He called the story “false” and “defamatory.” That lawsuit is still pending.

Do you think the New York Times will settle the lawsuit President Trump filed against them?
