A lot of care is needed to take care of a pet, and lots of love can bring powerful results. One story illustrates this when an in-home caregiver found a dog in need coming into their life. Recently, the caregiver gave an emotional update concerning their new furry friend, Daisy, who has also since become a social media star.

The Caretaker Admitted She Was Shocked Seeing Daisy For The First Time

Tegan Strickland works as a caregiver. One day, while working at a new client’s home, she learned the woman had a dog, Daisy.

The client’s daughter warned that Daisy had some health issues. Despite this warning, Teegan admitted she was unprepared to see the dog in such a state.

Daisy was described as weighing 55 pounds, due to his owner overfeeding her. Speaking with People, Strickland shared, “I was very shocked. She’s very heavyset.” She also shared, “There are no words to describe what it is like to see Daisy in person for the first time.”

The family didn’t have much information about the dog’s history, including her age or where she came from. Strickland spent the first months trying to change Daisy’s feeding habits, but this was easier said than done.

Strickland explained, “If you’re familiar with dementia, that’s a losing battle and that didn’t work out.” She then had an idea: “I sat down with some of the family and asked, ‘Can you surrender Daisy to me so that I can attempt to rehabilitate her health?'”

A Vet Soon Helped Come Up With A Plan To Help Daisy

The family agreed to the plan and Strickland soon took Daisy to the vet. Daisy was soon put on a plan for weight loss, which included reducing her food intake as well as giving her food designed for weight loss. It was also noted that Daisy didn’t walk much at first. In fact, she needed to be carried outside to use the bathroom.

Recently, it was shared that Daisy’s weight was brought down to 45 pounds. However, she was also found to have other health issues. This included hypothyroidism, for which she is on medication, and gallbladder sludge, which could be caused by her weight loss.

In addition, Daisy also has dental issues. Once she loses enough weight to be put under anesthesia, she will have to have teeth removed.

The Vet’s Plan Also Included A Social Media Account For Daisy

To help raise funds, a vet recommended starting a social media page. Strickland noted that some people who see the page for the first time blame her for overfeeding Daisy in the first place, not knowing the whole story. She also expressed hope that the story could bring about dementia awareness.

Recently, Strickland shared that Daisy is “doing well” and is exercising more. She noted, “She’s able to explore more. She walks more. The first time she went to park, she sat and didn’t know what to do. Now, when we take her out, she walks slowly.”

“[Daisy] loves to explore new things. She loves to play with my three corgis. She loves to sit outside in the sunshine,” she adds. “She’ll dig a little area and sit in the sun. She has so much fun. She’s got a brand new life for sure.”
