A young woman in Texas could face around a decade in prison after allegedly leaving a child outside the father’s apartment in the middle of the night. The child was also reportedly left strapped inside a car seat. Text messages reportedly sent from the woman also helped to shed some light on the story. Other details have come out sharing how dangerous the situation could have really been.

The Child’s Father Reportedly Found His Child Outside His Apartment Door

A man in Waco, Texas, alerted police after he became aware of his baby girl being left outside his apartment building. His daughter was reportedly strapped within a car seat.

The father noticed his child was outside at around 2:45 AM, around 40 minutes after a text message was sent out saying the child was there. It was at this point that the father contacted authorities.

Police arrived at University Terrace Apartments, where the incident occurred. While there, they met with the presumptive father of the child, as well as her grandmother.

According to NBC affiliate WLUC, the woman who left the baby outside was identified as Ashley Marie Bailey. At this time, it is unclear what relationship Bailey has with the child. It is also unclear why the baby girl was with her in the first place.

The father shared with police that he received a text message reading, “Come and get your baby … (she) is at the door. Bye. Talk to you tomorrow.” According to the police affidavit, he received a few more messages. Another message read, “IDC (I don’t care). Call CPS (Child Protective Services) on me. Get your kid, bro.” A third message also read, “IDC anymore. Hope you get her or someone else is going to her so it’s going to be bad.”

The Child Likely Had To Endure The Summer Heat In Texas For Around 40 Minutes

The father also shared he found his daughter in the car seat when he opened his door. He also claimed he didn’t see the text messages until 40 minutes after they were sent. This means his daughter was likely left in the summer heat for more than half an hour.

When police went to Bailey’s residence, she was allegedly found to be drinking. She was later arrested and taken to the McLennan County Jail. She is currently being held on a bond of $5,000.

Bailey is currently being charged with “abandoning-endangering a child without intent to return,” which is a third-degree felony charge. According to Law & Crime, under Texas law, if convicted, Bailey could face 10 years in prison and a possible fine of up to $10,000.
