If you ask some viewers, The Bachelor franchise is in steep decline. When it premiered over a decade ago, the show was fresh and new. But now fans are tired of the same old-same old. The network reportedly stepped in to save the show with a new producer. Keep reading for all the details.

Bachelor Nation Fans Livid Over Bachelor In Paradise Season

Bachelor In Paradise was put on pause for the 2024 TV season after Season 9 aired in 2023. The move sparked speculation that the spinoff was done. But ABC brought it back for a super-sized Season 10. The revamped show was filmed in Costa Rica in cushy digs instead of a run-down resort in Mexico like previous seasons.

Hannah Brown was added as a second bartender to returning bartender, Wells Adams. But what viewers have noticed the most is the change in how the show looks. Season 10 used all new cameras and different editing. Many viewers diss it as a low budget rip-off of Peacock’s Love Island USA.

In another surprising change, the show introduced a $500,000 cash prize for the last couple. So instead of looking for love and an engagement, the show has turned into a competition for money.

The Bachelorette also went on pause for this year after Jenn Tran’s season aired last summer. ABC is airing a new Golden Bachelor season this fall instead. The Bachelorette might return in 2026. Two of the shows being put on pause worried fans about the future of the flagship Bachelor season.

ABC confirmed a few months ago that The Bachelor is coming back for Season 30 in early 2026. But with a new showrunner. Scott Teti takes over as The Bachelor executive producer and showrunner after multiple producers quit or resigned earlier this year. Scott Teti is also the EP for Season 10 of Bachelor In Paradise.

Deadline reported this week that another behind the scenes shakeup. A former producer is returning to save the franchise. Jason Ehrlich, who worked with the franchise for twenty years, is returning as consulting producer for Season 2 of The Golden Bachelor.

He’s 66 and single — for now. Meet Mel Owens, a former NFL player-turned-lawyer, proud father, and your next Golden Bachelor. 🌹

He was a producer on the first season but left the franchise after Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner’s marriage imploded. He’ll join showrunner Jessica Castro on the new Golden Bachelor season. The two will have their hands full trying to redeem former NFL player Mel Owens. He came under fire recently for his comments about not wanting to date anyone over 60.

The backstage changes come amid competition from other reality shows like Love Island USA and Netflix’s Perfect Match.

Do you think bringing back a former producer will help keep The Bachelor franchise from being canceled? Sound off in the comments.

  1. I think the whole concept is on life support. Mature people from 35 to 60 don’t really want to watch 20 somethings grope each other and tell each other blatant lies to get “more air time.” The Golden version could be good but whoever selects the lead MUST find people of integrity and not phony people. As for the proposed Golden lead, I do not wish to watch some 60 something dude who only wants to date teeny boppers or women much younger than he is. This who concept needs a drastic redo.
