A Question Fans Have Been Asking About America’s Got Talent Has Resurfaced With Season 20

Like many reality shows, fans have often wondered if America’s Got Talent could really be scripted. With the show’s recent return, these rumors have once again resurfaced.

For its part, Distractify claimed that there was no concrete evidence confirming or disputing claims that the show was staged. However, it was acknowledged that, being a form of entertainment, reality shows likely orchestrate things to help the show “flow a certain way and to guide viewers.”

For his part, Simon Cowell once said one of America’s Got Talent‘s original selling points was that it was a show where anything seemingly unexpected could happen. In a conversation with People, he shared, “Personally, I think the best thing we ever did was to say, ‘Why don’t we have a competition, which is a talent competition, where there are no restrictions?’ To have that kind of freedom is brilliant because you’re not restricted by anything and you’re always constantly surprised at what people come up with.”

On social media, one fan recently accused the show of using “staged auditions to create drama.” As they continued, “I just find it so irritating that when singers get stopped by Simon. It always feels so fake to the point that producers tell the plan to him. [Then] the contestants to play along. It seems so disingenuous.”

A Performance Of ‘Over The Rainbow’ Has Especially Gotten Fans Asking What’s Real & What Isn’t

In particular, the fan highlighted Charity Lockhart’s performance on the show, noting that she performed “Over the Rainbow” without backing music. As the fan claimed, “That just shows how staged it was just for her to completely smash it out of the park the 2nd time round.”

Taking to social media, fans have been weighing on whether or not they feel the show is staged or scripted. A few shared some “evidence” they’ve found while watching the show.

Others voiced other issues they’ve been having with the competition series. Some comments include:

  • “Turned me off so much. So staged at this point. Free walking her kids into seats. Stopping and do you have a second song? And without a beat a second one is ready.”
  • “As soon as she started singing, I said Simon was going to stop her, when she started her second song, my husband said ‘She’s going to get a golden buzzer.’ It’s just all so predictable. We turned it off after that and I doubt we will watch AGT again.”
  • “I’m sick of the ‘all about Simon’ moments! He gets more camera time than anyone else who has ever been on the show!”
  • “Yeah that was weird. Simon told her something about not knowing the song or some comment of that nature. I was like who the f doesn’t know over the rainbow?!”

  1. Whenever someone starts singing and he stops them and ask if they have a better song, or ask if her granddaughter can sing the same song. Right then everyone knows he was going to do this before the song even started.
And they never X a kid. It has never happened or will ever happen. And some kids are poor. But they never get the X.
