‘DOOL’ Fans Rage Over Patrick Muldoon Sighting
Despite being a Hallmark hunk for many years now, Patrick Muldoon will always be Austin Reed to many television viewers. He joined Days of Our Lives in the role of Kate Roberts’ son in 1992. Austin’s romance with Carrie Brady (Christie Clark) dominated the show throughout the 90s and beyond. The actor left DOOL in 1995 to pursue other opportunities.
Patrick Muldoon hasn’t been on the soap in over a decade. Fans of the show were sent into a rage after the show hinted he would be back. Keep reading to find out why.
Patrick Muldoon Reunites With Ex-Girlfriend, Denise Richards
A few years after leaving daytime, Patrick Muldoon landed a role that still follows him to this day. He starred in the 1997 science fiction cult hit Starship Troopers alongside Denise Richards. Love bloomed for the co-stars and they went public with their romance in 1998. The relationship didn’t last, and she went on to marry Charlie Sheen, but divorced in 2005 when she was pregnant with their second child.
Denise Richards is now married to Aaron Phypers. However, she’s still good friends with Patrick Muldoon. He made several appearances on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills while she was on it. She left the Bravo show after just two seasons, but returned to the network with her own show earlier this year.

Denise Richards & Her Wild Things featured the actress and her family. Her ex-husband, Charlie Sheen, appeared on one episode. In another episode, Denise reunited with Patrick Muldoon, who is also a musician, to star in a music video for his song “Gray Again.”
Bravo has yet to renew Denise Richards & Her Wild Things for a second season.
DOOL Hints He’s Coming Back To Salem
Patrick Muldoon returned to DOOL a couple of times after leaving in 1995. He played Austin Reed on the Peacock spinoff Beyond Salem in 2021. He also made a brief appearance on the soap in 2017. Austin Reed is now happily married to Carrie Brady and they live overseas. She recently returned to Salem for the funeral of her stepfather, John Black. According to Carrie, Austin didn’t go because he was attending their son Noah’s high school graduation. The on-screen death of John Black came eight months after actor Drake Hogestyn passed away in real life.
Christie Clark (Carrie) had starred alongside Drake Hogestyn as part of the father-daughter duo since she was a young girl. She was 12 when she joined DOOL in 1986. While her stint in Salem was short-lived, fans hope for her to return again soon, this time with Austin.
The DOOL social media account teased earlier this week that it was happening. They posted a video of Patrick Muldoon entering the studio where the show is filmed. “Oh, it’s good to be back,” the actor said at the end of the video as he walked away.

The show is celebrating its 60th anniversary later, so many fans thought that might be why Austin was returning to Salem. So, why are fans mad?
Fans Rage Over After Truth Revealed
It turns out that DOOL accidentally misled fans into thinking Patrick Muldoon was returning. After major excitement from fans, Soap Opera Digest reached out to the show for details. Unfortunately, he isn’t returning to the soap after all.
“He was visiting the studio and providing a tour to a friend, and the show’s video post touting his presence at the studio was tongue in cheek,” the outlet revealed.
One fan accused the soap of posting the video featuring Patrick Muldoon for “clickbait.” Another suggested DOOL was “testing the waters” to see if fans want Austin back in Salem.
Fans took to social media to rage against the mishap. One fan wrote, “Not fair I really was looking forward to seeing Austin Reed back on Salem.”
Why do you think the official DOOL social media team teased Patrick Muldoon’s return if he wasn’t actually returning? Sound off in the comments.
