‘DOOL’ Star Thaao Penghlis Returns, Teases Mysterious Storyline
Anna DiMera returned to Salem last week with her husband, Tony. But he wasn’t seen on screen. Thaao Penghlis took to social media to reveal his DOOLreturn airdate and tease a mysterious storyline. Keep reading for all the details.
DOOL Pays Tribute To Beloved Late Actor
John Black dominated storylines for decades on Days Of Our Lives. So it’s only fitting that the soap has spent the last month leading up to his death after Drake Hogestyn, who has played John since 1986, passed away in September 2024.
Since recasting the role wasn’t an option, the soap opera decided, with Drake Hogestyn’s blessing, to kill off the character. John Black died a hero. He was injured in a blast while gaining access to life-saving medication for a comatose Bo Brady (Peter Reckell.)
John Black succumbed to his injuries at the same moment Bo woke up from the coma. Friends and family of the town hero gathered this week to pay tribute at a funeral and a wake held at the Brady Pub.
The Peacock soap brought back several of John’s family members, including Carrie (Christie Clark) and Will (Chandler Massey.) But one family member who didn’t return is John’s stepdaughter Sami Brady. Click here to find out why Alison Sweeney wasn’t there.

Anna & Tony DiMera Return To Salem
Days of Our Lives changed head writers in July 2024. But the show films so far in advance that the material from the new head writers only started airing in April 2025.
Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford promised to move away from supernatural storylines and focus on family storylines. That includes the DiMeras. Tony DiMera is one of DOOL villain Stefano DiMera’s (Joseph Mascolo) children. Tony remarried his ex, Anna, in 2008. They haven’t been seen on the daytime soap in a while.
But now they’re back. Leann Hunley (Anna) and Thaao Penghlis (Tony) are among the cast members returning for the soap’s 60th anniversary this year.
Thaao Penghlis Reveals Air Date
Anna ran into Marlena at the hospital last week and offered her condolences. But there was no sign of her husband, Tony. Thaao Penghlis abruptly quit the show last year after a lack of storyline. However, he left the door open for a return in the future.
The actor took to Instagram to reveal when viewers can expect to see Tony back on TV. He shared that Tony will show up on Friday, June 20th.
Teases Mysterious Storyline For Tony
Viewers are happy that Tony and Anna are returning, but they haven’t been around for a while and aren’t involved in any storylines. But that’s about to change.
Thaao Penghlis teased in his social media post that Tony will face off with new characters.
“It’s an interesting story with players I have not dealt with before. But what a game of chess we play Who could possibly be the victor?”
