New When Calls The Heart Showrunner Teases What Happens With Elizabeth And Nathan In Season 13

When Calls The Heart Season 13 will start filming this summer and Hearties want to know what to look forward to. Thankfully, new showrunner Joy Gregory recently spoke to The Official Hearties Aftershow about Elizabeth Thornton and Nathan Grant’s relationship now that Little Jack has been diagnosed with diabetes.

Firstly, the new showrunner shared, “I am so excited we got to launch them toward Cape Fullerton, to literally put them on new territory.” She referred to Elizabeth, Little Jack, Nathan and Allie leaving for Cape Fullerton at the end of Season 12. Jack’s grandmother, Charlotte Thornton urged Elizabeth to go there as they have a good treatment center for Jack’s diabetes.

Next, Gregory dived into what Elizabeth and Nathan will experience in this new location. “They’re going to co-parent someone who has a chronic illness.” However she assured that they will not “dwell” on the little boy’s illness, but she assured they will “honor the reality of that and how it might change Elizabeth.”

Furthermore, Joy Gregory touched on how this experience will change the Hope Valley schoolteacher. “There’s opportunity for real growth of her character through adversity, but also through, of course, love and sharing her burden with Ethan.”

Lastly, she concluded, “I’m excited to lean into watching their relationship mature together–through good times and challenges.”

However, there is no mention of an engagement or wedding. Those Team Nathan fans who have been waiting for Elizabeth and Nathan to walk down the aisle of the Hope Valley church or the Cape Fullerton church may have to wait a little longer.

It sounds like the couple will have more opportunities to grow closer and for their character’s relationship to grow.

Although no production schedule has been published, Hallmark generally starts production on the series sometime in July, and it ends before Thanksgiving.

Therefore, When Calls The Heart Season 13 will premiere sometime in 2026. Meanwhile, Hearties can enjoy some small spoilers like the one about Nathan and Elizabeth’s upcoming challenges until Hallmark announces the premiere date.
