‘American Idol’ Shocking Reason Fans Are Mad At Singers’ Families
Each contestant on American Idol has their own story, their own backstory, and their own families. During their time on the show, the world gets a glimpse at what their previous life was like. However, fans have recently been voicing a concern they’ve been having over contestants’ families.
Fans Were Recently Treated To Two Disney Nights On American Idol
American Idol is currently in its 23rd Season. However, fans saw things cut down to the Top 3 contestants during a two-part Disney Night.
During the two nights, fans were treated to a variety of songs from Disney films. This included “A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes.” from Cinderella and the title theme of Beauty and the Beast. Lin-Manuel Miranda also appeared as a guest mentor.

The show settled on its Top 3: John Foster, Jamal Roberts, and Breanna Nix. With the season’s end right around the corner, the “Grand Finale” is set to air on May 18, 2025.
With the Disney theme, songs were intended to be emotional and nostalgic, effectively aimed at the young and young at heart. However, one thing about the presentation ended up turning off certain fans.
Taking to social media, one fan shared a certain “unpopular opinion.” As they continued, “I feel like when the contestants are on stage and solely sing to their spouse/children during their performance, it ruins it for me.”

“It takes away from connecting to the crowd and its lowkey annoying when they just sit there and sing while ONLY looking at their spouse. Bre has a beautiful voice but i found it SUPER annoying when she just sang and stared at her spouse the whole song.”
“Thunderstorm did that too for BOTH of his songs. And all these judges are too nice to say anything that will help them become actual, famous performers. and i found it mad annoying. Hope the final 2 is Jamal and John, they deserve it.”
The fan admitted that their opinion was unpopular, but some fans agreed. Some even admitted that this was an issue they had with the show for quite a while.
Others shared different opinions, even giving explanations why contestants sing to their families. Some comments included:
- “This is what bothered me with Thunderstorm. It felt like he was doing a personal performance for his wife and kids every episode.”
- “I mean you gotta remember, these are just normal people who made it further than they ever thought they could. They’re making it special for themselves, as they should!”
- “This is always what makes it better for me, it’s part of why I sob every time Brianna sings, Especially Monday when she sang to her husband. I’d never heard that song but she really connected it”
- “I never saw this as an issue for any performances I saw. I don’t need these singers to sing to me, I just need them to sound good.”
- “Lin-Manuel actually suggested she do that during their mentoring session.”
