Swamp People star Joseph Richard, also known as Big T, is one of the cast members who appeared during the early days of Troy Landry and the crew. Big T debuted in Season 9 as the right-hand man of Daniel Edgar. He’s known for his sharpshooting skills and hilarious humor. Swamp People: Why Did Big T Leave The Show?
Big T suffered from multiple hospitalizations, which forced him out of the show. In 2019, he was sent to the hospital after suffering from a foot infection, which had already reached his bones. He underwent two surgeries and an insertion of a PICC for his IV antibiotics. After a year, the Swamp People star suffered from a scary accident. While taking a Pyrex dish out of the oven, Big T dropped the dish, shattering glass all over the floor. Some of the glass struck him and entered his foot. However, he never realized the debris that entered his foot until he suffered from an internal infection.
In October 2020, he was hospitalized again after the infection got worse. He underwent three consecutive surgeries, making his life more difficult. As a result, he launched a fundraiser to help pay for his medical bills. Big T never had a proper farewell for his fans when he left after Season 11, but it’s clear that his injuries played a significant role in his departure.
How’s Big T After Career-Ending Injury?
Big T remains in touch with the fans following his career-ending injuries. The Swamp People star likes funny epic fail videos and memes on his page. But there are also times when he gets serious, sharing motivational messages about self-love and being a person who pursues peace. He’s been discreet about the show. But Big T is still hunting with his family. In 2023, he uploaded photos from his deer hunting with his son. He’s also hunting ducks, showing that he’s still making a living in the wilderness despite his injuries.

Swamp People: Will Big T Ever Return To The Show?
Big T has yet to share if he’ll ever go back on the show. But it’s clear that hunting is still in his heart. The Swamp People star last appeared in the 12th episode of Season 12, where he and Daniel went hunting in the marshlands. It was also the episode where Troy and Terral hunted monsters in the shady areas, while Willie and his son hunted with a treble hook. Big T’s rifle skills can still be a huge asset for the Landry family and the rest of the crew. But his injuries would make it difficult for him to stay in balance while his partner wrestles with gators.
