‘DOOL’ Gives Sneak Peek At New Writers & Their First Episodes

Sami Leaves Salem, When Will She Return?
Alison Sweeney has played Samantha Gene Brady since 1993. She announced she was leaving the show in 2014 to focus on her family and other ventures. In addition to her soap role, she also stars in several Hallmark productions.
However, she wasn’t gone long. Sami has returned to Salem many times over the years since Alison Sweeney left. The character’s most recent return was earlier this month to address her son, Johnny (Carson Boatman,) finding out that he was the product of rape.
EJ DiMera (then played by James Scott) forced Sami to have s*x with him at gunpoint in 2006. In exchange, he saved Lucas’s (Bryan Dattilo) life. The rape resulted in a pregnancy. Sami was pregnant with twins with two different fathers. Johnny’s father is EJ and Allie’s father is Lucas.
EJ (now played by Dan Feuerriegel) was recently shot and is fighting for his life. During her stay in Salem, Sami had a one-night stand with her former beau Rafe (Galen Gering.) Sami’s gone for now, but she will be back soon.
According to Parade magazine, Alison Sweeney returns in a few months for Drake Hogestyn’s final send-off. The actor passed away from cancer in September 2024. The show is planning to kill off his character, John Black.
The actress will return again later this year to help the show celebrate its 60th anniversary.
Days Of Our Lives Fans Celebrate Ron Carlivati’s Departure
It was announced in July 2024 that Ron Carlivati was leaving his position on DOOL as head writer. The show named Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford as the soap’s new head writers. On most soaps, their material would have started airing months ago.
However, Days films six months in advance. As a result, the storylines written by the new head writers are only now beginning to air.
Fans of the soap took to social media to celebrate Ron Carlivati’s departure. He currently works on the CBS soap Beyond The Gates. One fan wrote that they were “so glad” the head writer was gone. Another added, “All I know is I hope the writers can fix the mess Ron made.”

A trailer for the upcoming week on DOOL gives fans a sneak peek at Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford’s work as head writers. The preview kicks off with Chanel (Raven Bowens) excitedly telling her husband, Johnny, that they are going to be parents. She tells him that they can adopt Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd) and Tate Black’s (Leo Howard) baby. However, Johnny doesn’t seem excited. Is there trouble brewing for the young couple?
Elsewhere in the trailer, Rafe tells Jada (Elia Cantu) that they should officially end things. Did his one-night stand with Sami reignite old feelings?
There’s a lot of eye candy in the promo, too. Both J.J. Deveraux (Casey Moss) and Xander Kiriakis (Paul Telfer) go shirtless for the hospital fundraiser.
