Katy Perry Refuses To Go Back To ‘American Idol’ Or Even Watch

When Katy Perry said she was leaving American Idol, she hinted she would be back. At the time, Katy said her replacement was keeping her seat warm. However, it seems that time away from the show is making Katy realize how much she was growing to despise her role on the reality TV show, and she now has no intentions of returning. She isn’t even watching the new season.
Here is what you need to know about Katy Perry and her feelings about American Idol since her departure.
Katy Perry Refuses To Even Watch American Idol
When Katy Perry announced she was stepping away from American Idol, she seemed to only want a break from the show. The pop star made it clear she wanted to start touring again with her music. She released some new songs and was ready to start her music career again. However, time away made her realize she didn’t want to return.

According to reports, Katy Perry will never return to American Idol. She is believed to have found the entire experience to be “suffocating” (via The U.S. Sun). Not only has she said she has no plans to return to the show, but she has also refused to watch any episodes this season with her replacement, Carrie Underwood.
“Katy doesn’t even watch show so she hasn’t seen Carrie,” a source close to Katy said. “But she feels more like herself now than she has in years being a pop star. She is a pop star to the core and her team all felt like the show was holding her back, she felt that too.”
The source said Katy’s Disney contract was “suffocating.” She had to film a specific number of weeks a year and answer to people she normally wouldn’t have to worry about. This kept her from making new music and touring. However, the source also said that Katy wishes the show well and considers it a “positive experience.”
“She just graduated from that chapter and has no interest in going back,” the source said.
Katy Perry Finished With Reality TV?
Katy Perry seems to want to return to her life as a pop singer and touring superstar. While Katy was making upward of $25 million per season for her role on American Idol (reportedly double what Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie made), she doesn’t need the paycheck.
Katy Perry is worth around $350 million and just released her new album 143 last September. This was her second straight album not to top the charts, although it did hit sixth on the Billboard 200. It is also her first album not to get certified at least gold since she took on the name Katy Perry.
Katy also plans to hit the road for her new Lifetimes World Tour, which starts on April 23, 2025, in Mexico City. She will be on the road until December 7, 2025, with her last show in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. She has 84 shows lined up.
