Ron Carlivati Gets Demoted At ‘Beyond The Gates’

Ron Carlivati is famous for his work as a writer in the world of soaps. Recently, soap opera fans have noticed his name attached to a recent daytime drama, Beyond the Gates. However, fans are also somewhat confused by his role on the show.
Ron Carlivati Most Recently Worked On Days Of Our Lives, Getting His Start On One Life To Live
Carlivati has had a prominent career as a writer for various soaps. This has included series like One Life to Live, General Hospital, and Days of Our Lives.
For One Life to Live, Carlivati started as a writer’s assistant, before moving onto a script and later a breakdown writer. In 2007, he took on head writing duties with Dena Higley, effectively becoming the main head writer towards the end of the year.
Carlivati would continue in this role until 2012. Following the end of One Life to Live in 2012, he would join General Hospital, once again serving as a head writer. He would later take on the head writer role for Days of Our Lives, ultimately leaving in 2024, with his material finishing up by 2025.
Following this, Carlivati would start work on the latest CBS daytime drama, Beyond the Gates. This series, which focuses on the affluent Dupree family, notably serves as one of the first daytime soaps to premiere on a major American broadcast network since Passions in 1999. It’s also notably the first soap to predominately feature an African-American family since 1989’s Generations.
Carlivati’s recent role on Beyond the Gates has not gone unnoticed from soap fans, who certainly recognize the writer’s name. However, there has been some confusion over his new role.
Taking to social media, one fan recently wrote, “I’ve been watching Beyond the Gates, and I quite enjoy it. But I noticed in the credits today that Ron C. Is the head writer. So far it’s not bad.”
However, another fan clarified the situation in the comments. As they noted, “Ron isn’t the head writer, he’s just a writer on the staff.” Another elaborated, “More specifically – he’s a breakdown writer.” Notably, IMDB has also confirmed Carlivati’s role as a breakdown writer on the soap, noting him as a head writer on other shows.
Fans Are Already Wondering What Carlivati Will Bring To Beyond The Gates
The original poster then asked, “Can you elaborate for those of us who might take this as he writes all scenes where someone [breaks] down. Emotionally or physically. Literally or metaphorically. Lol.” As one fan explained, “Breakdown writers basically write what will happen in the episode and in what order, while the script writer adds dialogue.”
This caused the original poster to muse, “So physical writing and spoken dialog writing. Hmm I don’t think has ever crossed my mind as I guess a thing. Did they have that in the movie ‘Soap Dish’ with Whoopie and Sally Fields?” Ultimately, they mused, “Ya. I might be wrong on the head writer part but he is a writer for the show.”

- “Isn’t that quite the demotion?”
- “Fortunately or unfortunately for Ron, I imagine him as Leo [Stark] now. Ron lives in a hotel room. Who knew?”
- “Yeah, it was announced around the time the show was about to air but I had only seen that he joined the writing staff and wasn’t head writer. That’s news to me.”
- “Guess how long it will take for his favorite, Jackee to move to Beyond the Gates.”
