‘Shark Tank’: Where To Buy Sock Candy Women’s Socks
Tonight on Shark Tank, four new entrepreneurs are joining the show to see if their products can catch the sharks’ eyes. One of the latest products is an interesting sock company that one woman started in 2020 and has grown to $1 million in sales without outside investors. Now, she wants to see if one of the sharks is interested in joining the show.
Here is a look at Sock Candy, a one-woman show that sells women’s socks, which has caught the attention of Katy Perry and Chrissy Teigen.
What Is Sock Candy On Shark Tank?
Mary Yashan Gui brings her company Sock Candy to Shark Tank tonight to try to win over the investors. For Sock Candy, Mary built the company from the ground up and never used any outside investors or venture capital to do so. Instead, she used her own savings account to fund the company.
Mary immigrated to the United States when she was seven and wanted to work in a stable profession. However, she felt unfulfilled working for an advertising agency. She then decided to become a fashion blogger and influencer, which is when she gained traction.
Mary soon developed an image online thanks to her unique and quirky style of wearing socks with sandals and heels. She soon noticed a gap in the market for socks. Either the socks were high quality and too expensive, or they were poor quality and affordable. She wanted to create socks that were made from quality materials but were affordable.
Mary also found an interesting niche that was also unfulfilled in the marketplace. She created “funky yet elegant” sheer socks with designs that could be worn as a fashion centerpiece. She also has cotton socks, but her sheer designs became a hit.
Mary made $80,000 in her first year and was up to $720,000 in sales by year three. By 2024, she closed in on $1 million in sales. There were a few moments that pushed her company to success. Katy Perry took notice and partnered with her to offer the socks as gifts with Perry’s shoe company. Mary then saw The New York Times, Vogue, and Allure take notice, and they promoted her socks.
She began selling the socks at select Urban Outfitters and on Macys.com. Then, Chrissy Teigen discovered them, bought some, and posted pictures of herself wearing them on social media.
