It’s the dream of every contestant, and often viewer, to win big on The Price is Right. However, one recent contestant who appeared on the show claims they didn’t quite get the prize they won on the show. The contestant notably shared the story with fans on social media amid congratulations.

The Price Is Right Was Having A Spring Break Special

One recent episode of the CBS game show saw host Drew Carey present the Dice Game. During this game, a player is given large red dice to roll in the hopes of getting a correct price.

As Carey explained, if a contestant gets the wrong number, they still have a chance to win. They just need to guess if the needed number is higher or lower than the one they rolled. This means a one or a six, the lowest and highest numbers, are automatic wins.

This time, the contestant was a college student named Ethan. He could be seen wearing a Berklee sweatshirt, which represents the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. During his appearance, he shared that he played drums. Notably, the episode was part of a special “Spring Break” edition and featured college students as contestants.

After Carey explained the game, Ethan initially tossed the dice out of the table. This caused Carey to chime, “No Roll.” First, he scored a two, correctly guessing the real number was higher. The next was an automatic six. He then rolled two fives.

Ethan correctly guessed the next number was lower, while the second five was the correct number after all. This means Ethan one the big prize: a car.

However, Ethan himself has shared that things didn’t go quite as they seemed following the show. When a clip of Ethan’s win popped up on the show’s Instagram page, a commenter shared, “Oh hey that’s me!”

Fans Still Congratulated Ethan On The Win On Social Media

Amid congratulations, Ethan was asked “How much did you end up having to pay to get the car?” At this point, Ethan revealed some surprising news: he never actually got the car.

As the college student explained, “Ended up getting the cash value of the car due to shipping issues. They deducted the 7% CA state tax right after.”

As noted by Monsters & Critics, Ethan currently goes to school in Massachusetts, which would explain the shipping issues. As the publication mused, a cash prize is likely the more attractive option for a college student. After all, they could use it for their tuition or life after college.

Regardless of the eventual outcome, many other fans took to the comments to congratulate Ethan on the win. Some comments included:

  • “I just love how everyone is excited for everyone on there, whether they get called up or not.”
  • “That guy played drums one time for an old band of mine. @ethanfranklin_official quite the game show assassin”
  • “@ethanfranklin_official fun … I love that game. I’ve been watching for years. Never been there though. Congratulations on your win.”
