‘The View’ Cancellation Demanded, Whoopi Goldberg Lashes Out At CA Governor

The View has often been subject to criticism over the years. However, a recent conversation about California governor Gavin Newsom on the show recently sparked outrage among viewers online. Since then, co-host Whoopi Goldberg has discussed the online discourse.
Whoopi Goldberg Denied Any ‘Name-Calling’ On The View
Goldberg is known for her work as an actress and a comedian. However, she also joined The View back in 2007.
During a recent Thursday episode of The View, Goldberg responded to criticism following the panel discussing California governor Gavin Newsom. In particular, they talked about his views about trans women playing women’s sports.

As noted by Entertainment Weekly, Goldberg noted, “People assume that we believe whatever they believe that we believe.” She continued, “People believe that they know everything I think and believe. They don’t. One of the ways you learn what people believe is to hear them talk.”
Goldberg then addressed critics who want the show taken off the air. As she noted, “One of the things people would love to see, people always say, ‘You should take The View off television.’ You know why? Because we give you an opportunity. We don’t tell you what to think, we say, ‘This is what I think.'”
The co-host continued, “When we do that, that is how you have the dialogue. It’s not personal, you know?”
Goldberg also added, “It becomes an awful thing when people become personal about you or your family.” She also decried “name-calling,” denying that it happens on The View.
As Goldberg continued, “We don’t do that here. Other people do it to us and would like to think that that’s what we’re doing to them. But we’re not.”
As noted by The New York Post, Goldberg previously discussed Newsom, saying “It’s deeply unfair” to have women athletes compete with trans women. At the time, Goldberg responded to this, saying, “Part of the problem the trans community is facing, and it’s the same problem that women face, is if you don’t know anything about our bodies, you don’t know how it works.”
Whoopi Goldberg Previously Discussed Newsom’s Comments On The Series
As Goldberg continued, “When you come in and you say, these are men competing against women, you’re assuming that the women are weak and just can’t do anything.” She added, “Have you seen female athletes? They know what they’re doing, so I’m not sure what’s going on or why this is an issue.”
As the publication noted, Goldberg’s comments sparked outrage online with many prominent figures speaking out. Author Jennifer Sey shared, “Whoopi Goldberg said that those of us fighting for the protection of women’s sports are treating women like weak delicate flowers.”

Sey continued, “This is so dumb. We are fighting for equal opportunity & safety for women. They are telling us to shut up & give men what they want.”
Political commentator Megyn Kelly also added, “Why is it the whole world can acknowledge that women are at a strength disadvantage when it comes to the risk of sexual assault/rape but when it comes to athletics the message is: ‘women are as strong as men! You got this ladies!!’”
