Fans of Blue Bloods were happy to learn that the series would continue after its end through the spin-off, Boston Blue. The series is set to star Danny Reagan, once again played by Donnie Wahlberg. However, fans are wondering if another series star, Frank Reagan’s Tom Selleck, is set to make an appearance. Recently, an inside source has talked about the idea.

Donnie Wahlberg Will Be Working Behind & In Front Of The Camera For Boston Blue

Boston Blue was originally intended as a standalone series. However, it was later rewritten as a spin-off of Blue Bloods, focusing on the Danny Reagan character.

Thanks to this, Donnie Wahlberg will continue in a role he originated back in 2010. However, this also has fans wondering if other actors from the show will be making their own reappearances.

In particular, many fans would like to see Tom Selleck, who played family patriarch and Danny’s father Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods. An inside source notably talked about this idea on Closer Weekly.

As the star mentioned, “Tom’s been pretty vocal when it comes to his feelings about the network ending Blue Bloods. He did not want to say goodbye to that role, so naturally he’s very open to coming back and doing cameos on Donnie’s show.”

The Original Series’ End Was Noted To Be An Emotional Moment

The source also noted that Wahlberg, who will also serve as Boston Blue‘s executive produce, and Selleck still remain close. This arguably makes it all the more likely that Selleck could appear.

As the source shared, “They are still very close, over the nearly 15 years they worked together they developed such a fantastic relationship. They’re genuine friends, in a lot of ways they grew to be like family, that’s how bonded they were.”

“They both got emotional filming their last dinner scene on Blue Bloods because it was the last, but now that this series is happening, they may get to do another. It’s set in Boston so it won’t be a regular family dinner thing like on the last show but there’s the potential and Tom would be all for doing it.”

As previously reported, many of Blue Bloods‘ cast members have been very open about how emotional the ending of the series was. In a statement with Entertainment Weekly, this past December, Wahlberg shared, “I remember Tom read a poem. Or, he didn’t read it. He’d memorized the poem and recited it.”

The actor continued, “He would always just drop these sage little things upon us at dinner from time to time.” Wahlberg later added that he “started crying and didn’t stop for a few hours.”

At this time, Boston Blue is planned to air on CBS. For the time being, its debut is set for 2025.
