Latest On Menendez Brothers Release
The 1989 murder of Jose and Kitty Menendez shocked the nation. The wealthy couple were killed in their ritzy Beverly Hills home. Their two sons, Erik and Lyle, were eventually arrested for the crime.
While the brothers initially denied involvement, they later confessed, but blamed sexual abuse as a reason. Their first trial ended in a mistrial. They were found guilty in 1996 and were sentenced to life without parole.

The case was back in the news in the last few years as new evidence came to light. A letter resurfaced that allegedly corroborates their claim of sexual abuse by their parents. The new evidence increased public pressure to release the brothers from prison.
Los Angeles County District Attorney, George Gascón, agreed with the public. He filed to re-sentence the brothers, a move that could potentially free them from prison after more than three decades.
Gascón lost his bid for re-election but the new DA agreed that the brothers should be re-sentenced. Erik and Lyle Menendez will appear in court in March to find out their fate.

The brothers have given several interviews over the years. They were initially kept in separate prisons but were reunited in 2018 and are now housed in the same prison.
The brothers recently joined TMZ’s 2 Angry Men podcast via telephone. They were joined by their lawyer, Mark Geragos. The two revealed new details about their life in prison, including the abuse they suffered from other inmates.
Erik Menendez revealed that he was attacked multiple times when he first arrived at prison. He also shared his reaction to hearing through the prison grapevine that his brother Lyle had been attacked and suffered a broken jaw.
How They Watched Netflix Series From Prison
The Menendez case was the topic of Season 2 of Netflix’s Monsters series by Ryan Murphy. Despite being in prison, Lyle and Erik Menendez were able to watch some of Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
Lyle Menendez told TMZ that he was able to watch it through the video calls they are allowed in prison. The brothers also saw clips of it on the prison television. He had nothing but praise for Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez, who played the brothers on the Netflix show.

“Cooper Koch’s rendition of Eric and his trauma was pretty extraordinary. And so was Nicholas with this,” he said.
