Sara Haines was talking on a recent episode of The View when she pulled out an accent to make a joke. The accent was a homage to a famous movie quote, which was clearly obvious to anyone with pop culture knowledge. However, there were some fans who clearly didn’t recognize the quote and thought she was mocking a group of people.

Here is what Sara had to say and why some people thought it had a deeper meaning than just a movie reference.

Sara Haines Makes Movie Joke On The View

Sara Haines was talking on The View, and she made a joke based on a popular movie quote. The women were talking about Temptation Island, and there was a person on the game show named José Carlos Montoya. With the last name of Montoya, it was too easy for Sara to pull out a famous quote from the beloved classic movie The Princess Bride.

Sara used Mandy Patinkin’s accent from that movie, where he played the character Inigo Montoya. The quote he used was “My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.” It is a quote that most people still throw around today, using the accent that Mandy used in the role (he was a Spanish swordsman in the movie).

However, some fans seemed very confused by this moment. One Redditor called it a “Central American accent” (Inigio was Spanish, not Latino). They then claimed that it was Anna’s accent and it was an embarrassing moment and wasn’t funny at all. Even when some people said it was from The Princess Bride, the Redditor said, “I know. I don’t know if Ana did, though.”

This led to a discourse in the comments about the moment and how it was nowhere near a “Central American accent” and was simply a movie homage.

Fans Come To Sara Haines Defense

The fans swept in to defend Sara Haines and try to explain The Princess Bride and Inigo Montoya.

Here is a look at what the Redditors had to say:

  • “Sara was imitating Mandy Patinkin, who played Inigo Montoya and who is not Hispanic. I don’t think there was any intent to offend.”
  • “Since the clip was about Temptation Island and not a serious subject, I actually also thought it was funny, but I’m not Hispanic.”
  • “She was imitating a character from a movie. I don’t like Sarah that much but didn’t see anything wrong with quoting “The Princess Bride.”
  • “Do you mean her Princess Bride moment? She was just imitating the character in the movie. Who hasn’t done an Inigo Montoya impression?”

What are your thoughts on Sara Haines pulling out an Inigo Montoya quote when talking about someone from Temptation Island? Were you offended? Let us know in the comments below.
