‘Today’ Craig Melvin Replaced By Fan Favorite Co-Anchor
The Today Show co-anchor, Craig Melvin, recently took the reins from famous journalist Hoda Kotb. With just a little over one month under his belt, another familiar face has slid into his position. His spot gets taken by a network fan-favorite newscaster alongside Savannah Guthrie.
Craig Melvin’s ‘Craig Era’ Has Ran For A Month
On January 10, 2025, The Today Show made a huge shift as Hoda Kotb said her goodbyes. While the entire last week was filled with honored guests for Hodabration, it was sad to see her go. But Craig Melvin stepped in and carried on, starting Today‘s “Craig Era.” But much to many viewers’ surprise, Craig wasn’t in the studio on Tuesday.
Even when Savannah Guthrie couldn’t make it in, Craig Melvin powered on. But now, his spot was filled by none other than Peter Alexander.
Craig Melvin Replaced By Fan Favorite Co-Anchor
On February 11, 2025, The Today Show looked a little different. Alongside co-anchor Savannah Guthrie was a long-time NBC veteran newscaster, Peter Alexander. Savannah says, “Nice to have you with us, Peter. Craig is on assignment in Milan.” Likewise, she adds, “Tomorrow on Today, he’s going to give us a first look at the 2026 Winter Olympics. The countdown is already underway, so he’s going to show us around the beautiful host city.” Although Craig Melvin was missed, having the Chief White House Correspondent for NBC News and co-anchor of Today‘s Saturday show was a treat.

Peter Alexander has worked for NBC News for over 20 years and had his big break in 2004. He was on location in Cuba and managed to coordinate an interview with then-Cuban President Fidel Castro.
Fans Love Seeing Peter Alexander Stand In
Before Hoda Kotb passed the baton to Craig Melvin, Peter Alexander had co-anchored with Hoda and received many accolades for his temporary station. On Instagram, he was proud to be on The Today Show. He said, “What an absolute highlight to host @todayshow – for the first time ever – alongside @hodakotb this morning.”

But returning to screens with Savannah Guthrie was a pleasure for viewers. Before heading back to The Today Show to replace Craig Melvin in his absence, Peter Alexander posted on Instagram again. He captions: “Fill-in anchoring @todayshow alongside @savannahguthrie tomorrow.” Then, invites fans to tune in, “Hope you’ll watch.”
