Swamp People‘s Pickle Has Been Tackling Alligators Since She Was Six Years Old

On the History series Swamp People, viewers watch alligator hunters during gator season in the Atchafalaya River Basin. Over the years, different hunters have come and gone, with new faces showing up through the seasons.

Cheyenne “Pickle” Wheat joined the series during the twelfth season. She is based in Pierre Part, Louisiana and is especially known for scenes with her working with Troy Landry.

As noted by The U.S. Sun, Pickle is hardly a novice when it comes to dealing with alligators. A Louisiana native, she has been chasing them since she was six years old.

However, that doesn’t mean Pickle’s line of work isn’t dangerous. She once recounted a story in which she was in grave danger from an alligator.

The Swamp People star once revealed there was a time when she was pulled into the water by a gator. A few years back, she noted, “I fell on top of him and he was swimming in between my legs.” Adding to the danger, she was unarmed at the time.

Pickle continued, “That was a pretty scary experience. He was on the line, and we were trying to pull him up but because I was already leaning over the front of the boat, when we hit a cypress stump, I went straight in the water.”

Troy Landry’s Reaction Clued Pickle Over The Danger She Was In

“The alligator was attached to the tree and the line and wrapping me up. I’d say that was one of the scariest experiences.”

At the time, she was with Troy Landry and his reaction let her know just how much trouble she was in. She noted, “I wasn’t nervous until I saw how scared Mr. Troy was.”

“And if the legendary ‘King of the Swamp’ is scared, that kind of makes you a little nervous. I was scared when I saw his face, but I knew if we kept it together and managed to get the job done it would be ok.”

Fortunately, Pickle was thrown a gun and the gator was stopped in time. As she continued, “It happened so fast. Things happen daily, but it’s nothing you can really prepare for. I’ve gotten wrapped up by ropes and pulled in before. It doesn’t put me off though.”

Despite this encounter, Pickle has shared the hope that her children might one day pick up alligator hunting. As seen in the series, gator hunting is often a family business.

This is just as true of Pickle, as her great-grandfather was one of the first gator hunters in the area. She noted, “Where I’m from, everybody does it. In my part of the world, it’s normal.”
