Fans of The Young and the Restless have been wondering if Ray Wise’s Ian Ward would be leaving the soap, especially after a surprise twist. However, Wise himself recently opened up about the character in a recent interview. In fact, Wise might have hinted at the fate of another character on the soap.

Before His Recent Return, Ray Wise Last Appeared On The Soap In 2016

For many, Wise is best known for his work on the series, Twin Peaks. In 2014, he joined the cast of The Young and the Restless as the villainous Ian Ward.

Initially leaving the role in 2016, Wise made his return as Ian to the soap back in 2024. At the time, the character teamed up with Jordan Howard, played by Colleen Zenk, to cause trouble in Genoa City.

Recent events made it seem like Jordan and Ian’s return would both be brief and their last. As seen on the soap, Ward’s fate seemed to be sealed thanks to a bullet wound.

However, Ian turned out to have survived as he woke up in an ambulance. Following this, Wise has since opened up about the story, and his character’s future on the series, with Soap Opera Digest.

The publication noted that Ian should be leaving the soap for a while. However, the twist hints that this isn’t the last fans have seen of him. Wise noted, “Well, you can’t keep a good villain down, you know? You just can’t do that! And I was very happy that they kept the door open for Ian to make a return at some point.”

The publication also noted, before his return, Wise hadn’t been on the soap since 2016. This meant he hadn’t worked with head writer and executive producer Josh Griffith before.

Wise admitted he was flattered that this meant his character still left an impression on the showrunners. He noted, “When [Griffith] got in touch with me, it was either by text or email, and he just sort of threw it out there, saying, ‘Is it possible you might be interested in having Ian get out of jail and come back to Genoa City?'”

Wise Mentioned Which Character He’d Also Like To See Return To Genoa City

“And I immediately said yes. I’d been talking for the last eight years about letting Ian out of jail and coming back to Genoa City.”

Wise discussed how Griffith explained the planned storyline to him. As he shared, “And then he said that he had a partner in crime for me, and it was a woman by the name of Jordan, who had been on the show before. And Colleen Zenk became my partner in crime on the show. She was wonderful! We worked extremely well together.”

On talking about Zenk, Wise noted, “We had to stay within the bounds of network taste, but we could go any which way, and we tried to keep our sense of humor about it. We had a very good rapport. Colleen and I, and she was just the perfect acting partner for me on the show.”

While Ian is gone for now, Wise admitted he would be up for a return. He shared, “I enjoyed my time on the show so much and Josh knows that I’d come back in a heartbeat if he had any new ideas about the character of Ian Ward.”

Wise also noted he hoped Ian wasn’t the only character making a return: “And I even hope that Jordan isn’t dead, either! I hope that she could come back, too. That would be amazing, if that happened. I think we’ve just scratched the surface as far as settling all of our vendettas. I think there’s plenty more that could happen.”
