Roseanne Barr Working On Exciting Comeback Series

Back in 2018, Roseanne Barr was fired from the reboot of her namesake sitcom. Since then, the actress has been planning her comeback. In a recent conversation, Barr gave a few hints on what the show will be like. She also teased her backup plan if the series doesn’t sell in Hollywood.
The Comeback Was Described As A Cross Between ‘The Roseanne Show & The Sopranos’
Getting her start as a standup comedian, Barr’s breakout was her own namesake sitcom, Roseanne. At the time, the series was considered subversive for its realistic portrayal of a working-class family.
In 2017, ABC announced a revival of the series including most of the original cast. Notably, the sequel series retconned the earlier series’ original ending, which infamously killed off John Goodman’s character Dan.

However, the revival ended up cancelled in 2018 after Barr released controversial tweets about government official Valerie Jarrett. Following this, a reboot continuing the show without Barr, The Conners was greenlit. The reboot would last multiple seasons, with the seventh announced as its last.
In a conversation with Variety, Barr announced she has been working on another comeback. She is planning a new comedy series with the help of Roseanne producer Allan Stephan.
Roseanne Barr Partially Based The Series On Her Own Life In Hawaii
The series will start out with four to six episodes. It has been described as a cross between “The Roseanne Show and The Sopranos.”
The story revolves around an Alabama farmer who wants to save America from “drug gangs and China.” That said, he will also be growing and selling cannabis and psychedelic “magic mushrooms.”

Barr admitted that she partially based the series on her own life experiences. As she noted, “I live with my daughter and her husband and their six children on a farm. And they have goats running through their house and stuff. It’s based on my life as a farmer in Hawaii.”
Barr continued, “They save America with guns, the Bible, petty crime and alcoholism. It’s kind of like the Coen brothers thing.” In addition, she described the series as “silly and out there. [It will contain] very offensive ideas and a lot of swearing.”

While not revealing who is selling it, Barr said the series is being shopped around Hollywood. However, she assured, “If Hollywood doesn’t buy it, then I’m just gonna make it myself.”
“Does anybody in [Hollywood] like America or the people who watch TV? Because the people who watch TV would really like to see a show where working-class people win against the enemies of America.”
