Lady Gaga has some new music coming out and is promoting her upcoming material. While talking about her new songs and music, she also has opened up somewhat about her past. The singer-songwriter said that when she first hit the scene, she was feeling overwhelmed. She said that she began to self-medicate, but luckily, someone was there to help her.

Here is who Gaga said was able to help her get her life in order.

Lady Gaga Says Someone Special Saved Her Life

When she became one of the world’s biggest pop stars, Lady Gaga said she was overwhelmed by her success. To help her escape, she began to self-medicate with alcohol, cigarettes, and cannabis. However, she soon realized she was overdoing it and started a downward spiral.

“I used to drink a lot and smoke a lot, and I was always looking for an out,” Gaga said (via The U.S. Sun). “I used to call it the trap door. I used to be like, ‘I need an escape route’.”

During her Monster Ball tour in 2010, she collapsed on stage during a New Zealand concert. Gaga also had to end her third tour, the Born This Way Ball, with 21 shows remaining. This was when she injured herself on the stage and developed fibromyalgia.

She said that she was struggling to feel comfortable in her own skin. However, that was when Sir Elton John stepped in. “He got me on the straight and narrow. He was telling me, ‘Gaga, you’re smoking too much’. He saved me,” Gaga said. “I stopped doing that. And I actually started feeling it — being present.”

This has led to people claiming that Gaga has gotten “boring.” However, according to the 38-year-old hitmaker, this is good. “I found a sense of happiness and joy that is true to me,” she said.

What To Expect From Lady Gaga’s New Music?

Lady Gaga also said that she learned to channel her “darkness” into the music she was making. However, she has now said she will start to “celebrate.” She also said that making her new album has allowed her to “love myself.”

Gaga releases her seventh album, Mayhem, on March 7. She also said she has plans for a 2026 world tour. However, first, she signed to perform at the Grammy Awards. Their collaboration, “Die With a Smile,” received a Grammy nomination for Best Song and Best Duo/Group Performance.

In October, Gaga released the first Mayhem single, “Disease,” a dark-pop dance anthem accompanied by a gothic music video.
