‘Landman’ Season 2: What Is Next After Shocking Death In Finale?

Taylor Sheridan has quickly made his name as one of the most successful TV creators alongside names like Ryan Murphy and Dick Wolf. Unlike those two men, Sheridan has created several new and distinct TV shows in short order, and he isn’t slowing down. His most recent is Landman, and the Season 1 finale has fans wondering what is next.
Here is a look at the shocking death in Landman’s season finale and what it means for Season 2.
What Happened In Landman Season 1 Finale?
Landman is yet another Taylor Sheridan series set in remote western areas. While Yellowstone takes place in the plains of Montana and Tulsa King takes place in Oklahoma, Landman is based in the oil fields of West Texas.

In the series, Billy Bob Thornton stars as Tommy Norris, an out-of-town lawyer investigating a fatal accident when the series starts. He ends up as a petroleum Landman and Operations VP at M-Tex, working for the company’s owner, Monty Miller (Jon Hamm).
The Landman Season 1 finale had the twists and turns fans of Yellowstone are used to from Taylor Sheridan. Tonny is named the new president of M-Tex before a drug cartel leader kidnaps and beats him. However, the big twist comes when Hamm’s Monty dies. When the cartel releases Tommy, they make him promise to work with them.
Landman is based on Christian Wallace’s Boomtown podcast. The creator discussed Hamm’s character’s death. He mentioned Monty checking his heart rate and his wife (Demi Moore) telling him to drink less coffee. He said something might happen, but they didn’t want to be heavy-handed. Monty died with his family around him as he waited for a heart transplant that didn’t arrive on time.
What Does Monty’s Death Mean For Lawman Season 2?
“It is safe to say that Monty has passed,” Wallace said (via Variety). “But when you take one major player off the board, it opens up opportunities for other players — and I think that’s all I’m at liberty to say at this point.”

Yellowstone fans know this well. Many people died on that show, and more characters stepped up to replace them. Wallace said that Demi Moore’s recently widowed Cami is one of the characters they have big plans for. While Paramount+ has not renewed for Season 2 yet, it is almost certain that they will bring back Taylor Sheridan’s show, and the fallout from the finale should be massive.
