‘Love Is Blind’ Star Warns About Paying Attention To Your Health

Netflix’s Love Is Blind star Kwame Appiah recently had quite the health scare. He shares his story to raise awareness among others. Mainly warning, you should not ignore things when they just aren’t quite right.
Who Is Kwame Appiah Besides Love Is Blind Star?
Kwame Appiah, now 34 years old, starred in Love Is Blind in season 4 of the show. Before being on the show, he was a professional soccer player. Kwame met his now wife of two years Chelsea on Love Is Blind. After so many highs since being on the show, Kwame has found himself in quite the slump for several months. Appiah first started to feel unwell back in November. Just one month later in December, his health had taken a turn for the worse.

Symptoms During The Wait
The Love Is Blind star began experiencing constant fevers for 3 weeks. Appiah also had lost 20 pounds, raising concern for his health. Little did Kwame know he was experiencing his undiagnosed life-threatening disease. He took to Instagram to share his story. Kwame wrote,
“In November, I got just a little sick, I felt just a little bit off, but I didn’t take it too seriously.” Appiah continued, “And then next thing you know, we’re about a month in. So, here’s why that month of waiting really hurt me. Because by the time I actually got to the doctors in December, I was having fevers for about three weeks. I had lost 20 pounds. So based on those symptoms, the doctor determined it could be an array of things and one of those was cancer.”

The Life-Altering Diagnoses For The Love Is Blind Cast Member
Eventually, the Love Is Blind success story star was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis. Ulcerative colitis is a long-term condition causing inflammation of the rectum and large intestine. Approximately 1/3 of people develop symptoms and complications in other parts of their body, which can be life-threatening. Because Kwame waited so long to go to the doctor, he developed a condition called toxic megacolon. This condition is rare and life-threatening, it is where the colon inflammation traps gas, leading to a swollen colon. At this point, the colon is at risk of rupturing and septicemia according to the NHS.
During the scare he made sure to acknowledge his wife, Chelsea, who he married in season 4 of Love is Blind. He praised her support as well as their friends and family.
He went on to try and share his story with others as a learning experience. Now that he is healthy, he wants to use it to expand others knowledge. He said he would leave them with three things to learn from him. “One, just a quick reminder that life is incredibly precious. I didn’t realize how important the normal things I did in my day were for me until I couldn’t do them anymore. Lesson number two, small things can lead to big problems if we ignore them, so don’t.”
He closed his post with “Lesson number three, information is everything. You have to know what it is if you are going to fight it.” The Love Is Blind star and his former cast mate and now wife are glad that the scare is over and trying to use it as education for others.
