Jerry Springer Cause Of Death Revealed 20 Months After Passing
When Jerry Springer died in 2023, his family refused to allow an autopsy. He hadn’t been sick for long, but this meant that fans wouldn’t know his cause of death. His family just wanted him to rest in peace and left it at that. However, the new documentary that just hit Netflix, Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action, has finally revealed his cause of death.
It has also opened the door to other things that many fans didn’t know about the former talk show host. Here is what you need to know.
How Did Jerry Springer Die?
In the new documentary, Jerry Springer: Fights, Camera, Action, longtime publicist Rabbi Kopnick talked about Jerry Springer’s life and death. Kopnick said, “He hasn’t been sick for a long time. He died of cancer, and he didn’t have cancer for very long” (via The Mirror). Kopnick revealed Springer was suffering from pancreatic cancer, but his family refused an autopsy.
Kopnick said, “There was much more to him than The Jerry Springer Show. He was very, very smart. He was a remarkable family man, and he was somebody who understood what it means to pay it forward.”
While most fans knew him as the host of crash reality TV and someone who watched as people had physical fistfights on his stage, Kopnick said he was still always a good person. “When he certainly could have moved on to another congregation after I arrived in this one, not only did he stay, but he did what he could to make it thrive.”
The Jerry Springer Show ran from 1991 until 2017, running for 27 seasons. It started out as a serious show that dealt with serious issues. Soon, Jerry began to use it as a platform to help estranged people come back together. However, ratings were terrible and he faced cancelation.
As a result, the network hired a former tabloid news editor, who brought in the ideas that would soon become the crash TV show people know it as. Everything from cheating to incest to adultery to everything in between was fair game. There was even a ring bell that allowed the guests the right to start fighting each other on the stage.
Jerry Springer Never Watched His Own Show
Jerry Springer died in 2023 at 79. Before he was a talk show host, he was a politician. However, no one would recognize that side of him when his show changed what the world knew about daytime talk shows. Surprisingly, Jerry never watched his own TV series when it was on TV.

“I would never watch my show,” Jerry said (via The New York Times). “I’m not interested in it. It’s not aimed towards me.” He later said, “You could decide only to put well-scrubbed, wealthy people who speak the Queen’s English on television and just do that but that wouldn’t reflect the whole society” (via BBC).
