Today, Jerry Springer fans learned the tragic news that the long-time talk show host had passed away. His publicist confirmed that the 79-year-old had passed away from his brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

Although he was primarily known for his role as host of the Jerry Springer show, he lived a rather interesting life. For example, he was the Mayor of Cincinnati in 1977.

But many fans might have forgotten that Jerry actually competed on Dancing With The Stars while the show was still in its early days. So how exactly did the popular talk show icon perform during his season?

Jerry Springer competed for the Mirrorball Trophy back in Season 3

Like many celebrities, Jerry Springer decided to accept an invitation to join the cast of Dancing With The Stars. Back in Season 3, he paired up with Australian dancer Kym Johnson to compete for the Mirrorball Trophy. He admitted he was hoping to learn how to dance properly so he could dance with his daughter at her upcoming wedding.

Although Jerry’s show was known for being fun and chaotic, fans were excited to see what he could bring to the dance floor.

Although fans loved seeing Jerry Springer compete, he admitted it was a wild process and he wasn’t likely to try anything like that again.

“I would never do it again because I realized how difficult it was,” Jerry told Behind the Velvet Rope. “What was fun about it is that I was totally outside my comfort zone. And I, as much as possible, tried to turn it into my comfort zone by instead of selling my dancing, which was hopeless, I would tell jokes. … I would keep begging each week, ‘Please don’t vote for me.'”

Check out his interview with Bethenny Frankel to see what he had to say about his time on the show:

Cheryl Burke and Emmitt Smith ultimately won that season. Jerry and Kym ended up finishing in 5th place out of 11 pairs. That’s not too bad!

Colleagues grieve the death of the iconic talk show host

Around the nation, fans are mourning the death of Jerry Springer. His friend and colleague Steve Wilkos was reportedly “devastated” to learn about Jerry’s passing. Wilkos worked as part of the security team on Jerry Springer for 10 years before going on to get his own talk show series.

“Other than my father, Jerry was the most influential man in my life. Everything I have today, I owe to Jerry,” the 59-year-old talk show host told Us Weekly. “He was the smartest, most generous, kindest person I’ve ever known. My wife [Rachelle Wilkos] and I are devastated. We will miss him terribly.”
