Jimmy Carter Dead At Age 100
News has come out that Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, has passed away. His death had been confirmed by his son. Notably, Carter was 100 years old at the time of his passing.
Former President Jimmy Carter Was Awarded A Nobel Prize In 2002
Carter served as the 39th President of the United States, from 1977 to 1981. He served many roles over the years, including a Georgia governor, a U.S. Navy veteran, and even a peanut farmer.
In 1982, Carter helped to establish the Carter Center. The nonprofit organization was created to help promote the cause of human rights. In 2002, Carter was granted a Nobel Peace Prize for his work with the organization.
Carter had passed away this Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia. His son, Jimmy Carter III, also known as Chip Carter, confirmed the news with The Washington Post.
The news of Carter’s passing come out around two years after the former president entered home hospice care back in February 2023. The decision had been made after Carter’s admittance to a hospital for a few stays.
The former president was 100 years old at the time of his death. As noted by TV Line, he was the longest-lived president and the first to become a centenarian.
As noted by The Washington Post, Carter’s son confirmed his passing but did not provide a cause of death. The publication noted that Carter had previously been treated for melanoma skin cancer over the years. At the time, it was believed tumors had spread to his brain and liver.
The Former President’s Son, Chip Carter, Released A Statement
The publication shared a statement from Chip: “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights, and unselfish love.” He continued that, “My brothers, sister, and I shared him with the rest of the world through these common beliefs. The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honoring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.”
It was also noted that Carter’s wife, Rosalynn, passed away on Nov. 19, 2023 at the age of 96. The two were married for over 77 years, making for one of the longest presidential marriages in United States history.

Notably, Rosalynn’s funeral was Carter’s last public appearance. He could be seen in the front row in Plains while riding a wheelchair.
The former president is survived by his children: Jack, Chip, Jeff and Amy. He also has at least 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The Carter Center also released a statement on Instagram. As it read, “Our founder, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia. We will provide updates about memorial ceremonies and activities as available on Facebook, Twitter, and the official Carter Family Tribute Site.”
