‘Jeopardy!’ Finally Gets Big Winner After Long Stretch Of Poor Play
The Jeopardy! producers were discussing how to fill the Tournament of Champions. There were not enough automatic qualifiers to make the lineup. They didn’t even have enough four-game winners, so they had to drop to three-game winners to add names. However, one more is coming late, and there is a new five-game winner this season.
Here is a look at Laura Faddah and how she finally broke the rough patch on Jeopardy! this season.
Laura Faddah Reaches Five Wins On Jeopardy!
It takes five wins for a Jeopardy! contestant to automatically qualify for the Tournament of Champions. However, the show can invite people with four wins if there are not enough five-game winners. This season, though, was so bad that they had to drop to three-game winners, and might have needed a second chance runner-up to fill up the ToC this year.
On Wednesday, Laura Faddah won her fifth game and guaranteed her spot in the Tournament of Champions. Laura is a great champion, too, and unlike the other five-plus game-winners this season, she seems like a very normal person. She is not showy, and has used a combination of smarts and some luck to get her wins. Laura might be the most relatable of all the big winners this season on the show.
On Thursday, she won her sixth game and extended her total to $79,400. On Friday, she had a smaller win, with only $8,000 in total winnings, but she is now a seven-game winner with $87,400. Laura won the game despite missing the Final Jeopardy question (“In his very first appearance by name, this character comes downstairs ‘bump-bump-bump on the back of his head'” – “Who is Winnie the Pooh?”). While Megan got it right, Laura was enough in the lead to win.
Now, Laura has a chance to extend her winning streak, but it will have to wait, since the post-season starts on Monday.
Who Is In Jeopardy! Tournament Of Champions?
The Tournament of Champions does not include a strong playing field this time. While it all came at the end of the season, Laura Faddah’s seven wins is the third most of anyone who played the game this season. Adriana Harmeyer won 15 games, while Isaac Hirsch won nine games.
Greg Jolin, Drew Basile, Alison Betts, Mark Fitzpatrick, and Dr. Amy Hummel were the only other players to get automatic invites with five wins, until Laura came along.
Fans were all impressed with Laura’s gameplay, even if luck was involved (via Reddit):
- “Laura continues to impress. She’s caught some lucky breaks along the way, but you can’t put together a 6-game win streak solely on luck.”
- “According to the box scores, she’s had more buzzer attempts than either of her opponents since her 3rd game, so she clearly knows her stuff.”
- “Yes she’s caught some lucky breaks but you have to be good to be in a position to take advantage of those breaks!”
