Quentin Tarantino Trashes ‘Yellowstone,’ Fans Outraged
Yellowstone recently got a famous critic: Quentin Tarantino. The famed director recently talked about the Paramount Network drama while appearing on a podcast. However, fans of the series weren’t too happy about his comments.
Quentin Tarantino Talked About Whether Movies Or Television Was Superior
Over the years, Tarantino has become known as an influential director with his own cult following. Some films he’s known for include Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Django Unchained, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, and the Kill Bill films.
The director recently made an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast. While there, whether movies were better than television shows became a topic of discussion.
While pointing out that he often hears people talk about “how great television is now,” Tarantino admitted that “it’s still television to me.” He then began to talk about the neo-Western drama Yellowstone, which has set to finish its final season at the time.
The director admitted it took him a while to give the show a chance. As he noted, “I didn’t really get around to watching Yellowstone the first three years or so.” However, “I watch the first season, and I’m like, ‘Wow, this is f****** great!’ I’ve always been a big Kevin Costner fan, he’s f****** wonderful in this.”
However, Tarantino also shared, “While I’m watching it, I’m compelled. But at the end of the day, it’s just a soap opera.” As he explained, “They’ve introduced you to a bunch of characters. You actually kind of know all their backstories and their connections to everyone else. Then everything is just the ‘compellingness’ of the soap opera.”
Yellowstone Fans Also Came To The Show’s Defense
Tarantino then shared, “You don’t remember it five years from now. You’re only caught up in the minutia of it at the moment.”
The director then explained that this train of thought was why he thought movies were superior to television shows. As he noted, “The difference is I’ll see a good western movie and I’ll remember it for the rest of my life.”
As noted by The Express U.S., fans were quick to defend the series. As one fan wrote, “Is there anything that man does like besides his own work?” Another wrote, “In that case, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood is a TV movie.”
As the publication noted, the comments also came out around the time fans had criticized a recent episode of the series. The story had heavily featured creator Taylor Sheridan as Travis Wheatley and guest star Bella Hadid.
As one viewer noted, “15 minutes of story and scenes wasted with watching Taylor Sheridan showboat on his own show, partying and just doing his thing. Wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what he does in real life too.”
