Whoopi Goldberg Says She Prefers ‘Hit-And-Run’ Hookups
Whoopi Goldberg got a little personal on The View this week. As the show nears its Christmas break, Whoopi decided to open up about her dating life. While this was unexpected, her revelations on what she looks for in a date were even more shocking.
Here is what Whoopi said she looks for in dating and how Sara Haines reacted to the comments.
Whoopi Goldberg On Her Dating Life
Whoopi Goldberg discussed her dating life on The View. Although she admitted to still dating, she said she was not interested in getting married again. Instead, the actress said she prefers casual hookups before deciding if there should be a repeat date.
“For me… I like a hit-and-run,” Whoopi said to her co-hosts. “I like a hit and run, because I am not interested in a committed relationship” (via Entertainment Weekly).
The term “hit-and-run” had her co-hosts laughing as she spoke about her dating plans. Sara Haines was the first to respond, saying, “The guys’ll love that,” to which Whoopi responded, “They do.”
Whoopi got married three times. She married Alvin Martin from 1973 to 1979, and they have a daughter, Alex. She then married director David Claessen from 1986 to 1988. After that, she married actor Lyle Trachtenberg, but that only lasted from 1994 to 1995. She has remained unmarried for the last 29 years.
This conversation about her hit-and-run dating was in response to an article from Atlantic that said many men and women have given up on finding love recently. Whoopi said that “people don’t know how to meet each other” anymore.
What Whoopi Goldberg Meant By Hit-And-Run Hookups
According to Whoopi Goldberg, most people don’t know how to go out and have a good time anymore. She said too many people care too much about how much they are making and have forgotten how to have fun.
“They don’t know how to go out and just have a good time — forget how much money you’re making, we’re here at the bar,” Goldberg said. “Let’s eat some chips, let’s eat one of these nasty potatoes, and see what’s going on.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin agreed with Whoopi. She said that you have to get out there and show up for things. “You can’t just sit at home and wait for someone to kidnap you.” Alyssa married her husband in 2021.
As for Joy Behar, who married a man she met at a nudist colony in 2011, finding someone you get along with is important. “At the end of the years, as they go by, and mine have gone by many years like yours, you end up being friends. Can you be friends with this person?”
