Al Roker might have the perfect relationship with his fellow Today Show co-hosts. He and his fellow colleagues have no problem teasing each other and having some fun during the morning talk show. That happened again this week when Al came out and said he made a promise to his bosses, but his co-hosts doubted it.

Here is what Al said and why he can’t keep this promise.

Al Roker Makes Unlikely Promise On Today

On Thursday’s Today episode, Al Roker, 70, popped into his place to give his regular forecast for the audience. However, before he gave the forecast, he said he had made a promise to his bosses. This led to Hoda Kotb and Sheinelle Jones saying he wouldn’t keep the promise.

Hoda and Sheinelle were talking about drones making fast food deliveries when they sent the broadcast to Al for his weather report. However, as most fans have come to expect, Al had a witty quip that he had to deliver when the cameras began to focus on him.

When the women sent things to Al, he said, “Hey! Hey, now. I promised our executive producer Tom Mazzarelli I’d be good, so…” Sheinelle and Hoda laughed and asked, “When did you start that?” Al laughed off the comment and said, “moving on” (via Hello!)

This also marked Hoda Kotb’s final Thanksgiving Day as host on Today. She will step down from her role in January 2025. While Al loves to work with Hoda, he has also said he is very happy she is leaving since she is moving on to another part of her life that is very exciting for her.

“You know, it would be more bitter than sweet if she was leaving, leaving,” Al said. “[She’s] just transitioning into a different role.”

However, Al is also happy that Craig Melvin is replacing Hoda. When Craig joined Today, he said that Al was the one person who was there to give him advice and help him find his way on the new show as a newcomer. Craig said Al was there to answer any questions and always had his back.

“It started, I was new to the show. And the Today Show is a very, it’s a delicate ecosystem. It’s been around for more than 70 years. It’s an American Institution,” Craig said. However, he said Al was there to welcome him with “open arms” and “had my back, and I’ve never forgotten that.”
