‘Today’ Al Roker Breaks Silence About His Battle With Addiction
Today co-anchor Al Roker is one of the most recognized people on television. Many households across America view him like family after all the years he has been in their living rooms. Recently, Roker was candid about his very real battle with addiction. So, what did he have to say?

Al Roker has been a staple for many families for years. When turning on Today becomes part of your morning routine, viewers grow attached to these media personalities over the years. So much so that they start to feel like extended family members.
This is certainly the case for Al Roker. Most people expect him to be presenting on their television screens when they tune in to watch Today. Whenever he has been absent, for health or personal reasons, viewers always take notice, as many agree that it’s not the same when he isn’t part of the crew.
Al Roker Struggled With Weight For Years
Recently, Al Roker opened up about the harsh realities of battling a food addiction. On the surface, many people may not think of it the same way, but, for a lot of people, a food addiction can be just as bad as an addiction to hard drugs, sometimes even worse.
Al Roker is no stranger to battling food addiction, as he previously ballooned all the way up to 340 pounds before eventually having gastric bypass surgery. According to Roker, his relationship with food changed completely after he “learned about portions.”
Al Roker Gets Real About Addiction
After everything that Al Roker has been through amid his food struggles, he is also one of the more outspoken people out there when it comes to opening up about the harsh realities of food addiction. Because he is in the spotlight, and because he is loved by so many people, he is the ideal person to shed light on this issue.
He also talked about the rise in popularity of weight loss drugs like Ozempic and others, which numerous celebrities have admitted to using to slim down.

Speaking recently to the Daily Mail, Roker said: “I’m not gonna judge anybody. Listen, it’s unlike any other addiction or dependence. You can live without alcohol, you can live without cigarettes, whatever that drug of choice is… but you’ve got to eat, and so for some people, it’s just difficult.”
The celeb continued, saying: “If this is what works for them, I mean, who are we to say, ‘Oh, don’t do that.’ As long as it’s safe and effective, good for you. I think everybody’s journey is their journey.”
