Fans have been given a devastating update concerning Wendy Williams. The media personality’s guardian recently claimed in court that she has been “permanently incapacitated” due to her current battle with dementia. Her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, has also been battling Lifetime over their Where is Wendy Williams? documentary.

Wendy Williams’ Guardian Had Been Fighting A Lifetime Documentary In Court

Williams is best known for hosting her own nationally syndicated talk show, The Wendy Williams Show, from 2008 to 2021. Beforehand, she had been a prominent radio DJ and was even the subject of a reality series, The Wendy Williams Experience.

While nothing official has been confirmed, Williams appeared to retire in 2023 since being diagnosed with dementia. During a recent court appearance, Morrissey also touched on Williams’ condition following the diagnosis.

As noted by The U.S. Sun, Morrissey noted Williams as “an acclaimed entertainer who, tragically, has been afflicted by early-onset dementia. She noted that Williams, “as a result, has become cognitively impaired and permanently incapacitated.”

As the publication noted, this is especially bad news for Williams’ fans. Many had been hoping to see the return of her career, possibly seeing the return of her talk show in some form.

The filing also noted, “In January 2022, after becoming aware of a pattern of disturbing events concerning [Wendy’s] welfare and finances, Wells Fargo took the highly unusual step of initiating a guardianship proceeding on its own initiative.” It continued that this was done “to seek the court appointment of an independent guardian for [Wendy’s] financial affairs.”

The Document Also Asked For Redactions To Protect Williams’ Privacy

In the document, Morrissey’s legal team also asked Williams’ “health, familial relationships, and finances” to be redacted for privacy’s sake. As the document continued, “We respectfully request that the Court grant Plaintiff’s motion for limited redactions to protect non-public information from the Guardianship Proceeding that has been placed under seal by the court overseeing that proceeding.”

Morrissey tried to stop Lifetime from releasing a documentary concerning the Williams with a restraining order. The request was soon overturned, however, out of concerns it would violate ‘the First Amendment of the institution.”

The guardian filed the lawsuit back in February says before the documentary was to be released. However, the filing claims Morrissey “never served the Original Complaint.”

In September, Morrissey filed an amended complaint. This was served to all defendants, including A&E Television Networks, Lifetime Entertainment Services, and director Mark Ford.

This suit was then moved to federal court back in October. The defendants have since filed countersuits against the guardian.
