Norah O’Donnell Shares Final ‘CBS Evening News’ Broadcast Date

Norah O’Donnell is set to leave her anchor job at CBS Evening News. The broadcast date of her final appearance in her role on the show has been revealed. Her departure is also notably one of various changes happening to the news program. O’Donnell is also already set to start a new job.

Big Changes Are Coming To CBS Evening News

O’Donnell has worked with a variety of media outlets over the years. For twelve years, she worked for NBC. This included roles like serving as a commentator for Today and an anchor for MSNBC Live.

After joining with CBS, O’Donnell would serve as an anchor for a variety of the network’s shows. Notably, she was named an anchor and managing editor for CBS Evening News in 2019, having previously served as a fill-in anchor starting in 2011.

However, O’Donnell shared that she was planning on leaving her role as anchor back in July. At the time, it was believed she would leaving the role around the end of the 2024 election.

As noted by Deadline, the CBS network’s news team has since revealed that O’Donnell will still appear in the role in the new year. The final broadcast with her as an anchor will air on January 24. Keeping the idea of her leaving after the election, this will take place four days after Donald Trump’s inaguration.

That said, O’Donnell already has a new role lined up. After leaving her anchor position, she will start a new role as a senior correspondent. With this role, she will conduct high-profile interviews.

John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois are set to take over as lead anchors following O’Donnell’s departure. Their first broadcast is set for January 27.

Norah O’Donnell Also Talked About Her ‘Commitment To CBS News’

This isn’t the only big change coming to CBS Evening News. After five years being based in Washington D.C., the series will make its return to New York as its home base.

O’Donnell previously shared her reasons for leaving the show in a memo to staff. As she noted, “It’s time to do something different.” As she continued, “This presidential election will be my seventh as a journalist, and for many of us in this business we tend to look at our careers in terms of these milestone events.”

Despite leaving her anchor role, O’Donnell noted that she “made a long-term commitment to CBS News to continue to do the same storytelling and big interviews that have been our hallmark. I will continue to contribute to Evening News and all of our news broadcasts, including 60 Minutes.”
