Nikki DeLoach Shares Why She Loves Making Hallmark Movies
Hallmark star Nikki DeLoach may have starred in The All New Mickey Mouse Club in 1993 with such illustrious cast members as Keri Russell, Ryan Gosling, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, and Justin Timberlake. However, she loves what she is doing now.
DeLoach has made over 20 movies now. Why does she love what she does?
Nikki DeLoach Shares Why She Loves Making Hallmark Movies
According to Women’s World, who spoke with the Five More Minutes star, Nikki DeLoach shared that her grandmother is the reason she went to Hallmark. She had been on the series Awkward. However, this series was a bit more “racy and edgy.” However, her grandmother called her and admitted that Awkward was a hard watch for her. Then Grandma made a suggestion. “I just want you to do one of those nice, sweet Hallmark Christmas movies.”
This was a surprise to her. She only knew Hallmark made cards. She never knew about the channel. After a quick call to her agent, she was matched up with Luke Macfarlane to star in Christmasland. The reaction from her family was surprising. She didn’t understand why, but after watching a few movies, it all clicked. “You get to escape for 90 minutes and feel like at the end of the day, everything’s going to be a happy ending.”
Nikki Loves The Network’s Magical Realism
Another reason that Nikki DeLoach loves Hallmark is that “the world of Hallmark is like magical realism.” She cited that Gabriel García Márquez as one of her favorite authors. That was something she could understand.
Nikki DeLoach Writes And Produces Hallmark Movies
Early in her Hallmark career, Nikki DeLoach talked to Hallmark about developing movies. She pitched the network three movies, and developed two. Nikki quickly learned about the audience who watches these movies. Moreover, this was not just a job for her. “The stories that we were telling our audience and the way that they impacted them and made them feel mattered to me. It was never just a paycheck.”
However, while the final product is fantastic, Nikki admits that the process is not always “such a delight.” She shared that they get 15 days to make a movie. Sometimes, it is only 13 or 14 days. The movies have a tight budget, and the crews are working long, hard days.
But, Nikki shared that although the work is hard, “It is joyous work.” Best of all, working on these movies means “you also get to escape into this world where everything’s going to be okay.”
But, the movie that is most significant to her is Taking The Reins. That is because this is the first movie that she developed and produced with Megan McNulty, her writing partner. Now, they have developed and written several movies together, including True Justice: Family Ties. Moreover, Nikki is not about to stop any time soon.
