Mark Harmon Talks Chances Of ‘NCIS’ Main Show Return
While fans love hearing Mark Harmon narrating NCIS: Origins every week, people still want to see him back on the original series. Harmon starred in the series for 19 seasons as NCIS Supervisory Special Agent and Special Agent in Charge Leroy Jethro Gibbs. However, he left after Season 19, and the show moved on without him.
Harmon recently spoke about his time on the show and the chances of his return. Here is what the actor had to say.
Will Mark Harmon Return To NCIS?
Mark Harmon was seen on screen last in the NCIS: Origins series premiere. He is now working on that show as an executive producer and the narrator. This is because Gibbs is writing his memoir of his life, and the show is the story he is telling in his book.
It is also similar to what Jim Parsons did on Young Sheldon. While that show waited until the series finale to explain that the series was Sheldon Cooper writing his memoir, NCIS: Origins revealed that information up front before the series ever started.
However, when it comes to Gibbs returning to NCIS, the main series, things are more complicated. Harmon has already said he isn’t interested in returning just to show up. He said the story has to mean something for him to return.
“I’ve always let the writers do what they want to do,” Gibbs said about his time on the show (via Collider). However, he said that no one has reached out and asked him if he would come back to appear on the show. When asked if he would come back, he said he didn’t know. “It’s about feeling like you’re fulfilled with a role, or complete with a role,” Harmon said.
Gibbs Is Remaining A Strong Part Of NCIS
Mark Harmon said that he loves narrating for NCIS: Origins. This is clearly a lot less work. He doesn’t have to worry about long shooting days or getting into character. He just has to read the script and let the new young actors take it from there.
Mark also said he loves the cast they put together for the show. “We’re happy with the cast,” Mark said. “Austin [Stowell] is a good kid and a nice actor. I think back to all the weeks we spent in casting offices trying to put that cast together, and we couldn’t be happier with this cast.”
Stowell plays Gibbs when he first arrived at the Pendleton branch of NCIS and started his career there. Fans are even getting a chance to see how and why Gibbs came up with many of his rules.
