In a recent promotion for the upcoming Wicked film, Mattel has released a series of dolls based on the characters. However, fans soon noticed an issue with the dolls’ packaging. Many have turned to social media to warn others about the issue.

The Dolls Are Based On Characters Straight Out Of Oz

Wicked is a revisionist take on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, detailing the early life of the Wicked Witch of the West, dubbed “Elphaba” in the story. Originating as a book by author Gregory Maguire, his take on the witches of Oz soon inspired a successful Broadway show.

This musical, in turn, inspired the upcoming film, which will be released November 22. To promote the movie, Mattel has released a line of doll resembling the characters, to the delight of both doll collectors and Wicked fans.

However, it soon came to light that a typo appeared on some of the boxes. As noted on a post shared on Instagram, Mattel printed the wrong website on some of the dolls. This typo appeared on dolls for Fiyero and Madame Morrible.

Customers Are Warning People In Reviews & On Social Media

While it would be troublesome enough that the wrong link was published, it turned out the link actually leads to a NSFW website. This is especially controversial considering many people may have been buying the doll for children.

This was noted on an Instagram post shared by user “honeysucklejasmine.” The post featured a photo of the packaging, revealing the website was written as “wicked.com” when it should have been “wickedmovie.com.”

As noted by Distractify, the post shared, “NSFW Alert. For any parent getting the @wickedmovie dolls by @mattel beware of the information on the back of the box.” The post continued, “Thanks to @shinyandplastic for this information on his Fiyero doll, the back of the box advertises this website which you’d think leads to the movie’s official website… It’s actually an adult ‘entertainment’ website.”

Customers have also issued similar warnings in reviews of the dolls online. As one review shared on the Walmart website noted, in a now deleted post, “The product is fine. I have a problem with the packaging and where it gives you a website. www.wicked.com If you go to that site, it’s an adult site. I’m not sure Mattel or Univeral did their homework on this.”

Fans have also criticized the issue on Reddit. As one user wrote, “Seriously, how does this happen? Between the studio and the dolls manufacturer which is a major company this is an epic and embarrassing failure. I guess someone didn’t do their due diligence and they are getting fired because of this.”
