Jeopardy! contestants have to go through a process before they get to compete on the show. One recent contestant, Zoe Grobman, shared her experience on social media. She even revealed she was in for a surprise when she met other possible contestants in the “green room.”

One Player Wagered Everything In The End

Zoe Grobman competed with returning two-day winner Eamonn Campbell and University of Pennsylvania undergrad student Rishabh Wuppalapati. By the end of the first round, Campbell was in the lead with $6,600. Wuppalapati was in second with $3,400, while Grobman had $600.

However, Grobman would end up taking second as the game went into the Final Jeopardy. The “Presidential Nomination Acceptance Speeches” category shared the following clue: “He talked of a “new Attorney General” 4 times, the end of a ‘long dark night for America’ & ‘a gentle Quaker mother.’” The correct response was “Who is Richard Nixon?”

Campbell’s winning streak came to an end when he incorrectly guessed “John Quincy Adams.” Unfortunately, he bet it all, bringing him down to $0.

Grobman gave the correct response, bringing her total to $19,601. However, Wuppalapati also gave the correct response, winning the game with $22,201.

As noted by TV Insider, Grobman would get her chance to share her side of the story on Reddit. While there, she described that she got quite the surprise during the game. As she started, “Hey Y’all, Zoe here. I haven’t watched the episode yet (did I win?), but I’m going to be busy with a watch party tonight so I wanted to just chime in with my thoughts and memories from my game.”

Grobman Also Shared What Helped Her Prepare & What Didn’t

“After watching everyone play the practice games, I knew there were two players I really didn’t want to face: Eamonn and Rishabh. This was only further cemented during the first game when Rishabh was getting all the answers in the green room.”

Of course, luck was not on Grobman’s side. As she put it, “So, of course, I faced both of them.”

Grobman also took the time to discuss some techniques she used during gameplay. “Studying buzzer technique – shoutout to Fritz Holznagel’s book – was the most valuable thing I did, although I had to adjust his recommended stance to account for sitting in a chair,” she explained.

On the other hand, Grobman felt that: “Studying content on the other hand did not end up having any value. I studied a lot of topics but nothing came up in the game.”

When discussing her near victory, Grobman also felt proud of what she accomplished. As she shared, “Overall I’m about as proud of my performance as it is possible to be without winning. I pulled off a major turnaround in Double Jeopardy with around a $10k swing against two very strong opponents, and I managed to beat the returning champion. I’m proud of my Jeopardy! Silver Medal!”
