‘Full House’ Scott Curtis Talks Kiss With Candace Cameron Bure

While talking with some stars of the show, actor Scott Curtis talked about this two-episode stint on Full House. During the conversation, he revealed what it was like to film actress Candace Cameron Bure’s first kiss. He also shared what it was like for him seeing Bure after the kiss.

D.J. Gets A Special 13th Birthday Present

Curtis appeared as Kevin Gwynn, an early love-interest for Bure’s character D.J. Tanner. In the episode, “13 Candles,” Kevin goes to D.J.’s 13th birthday party, where her friends try to arrange for them to kiss during a game of spin the bottle. Danny, Jesse and Joey intervene, humiliating her. However, Kevin returns after the party and gives D.J. her first kiss, giving the story a happy ending.

Curtis also appeared in the episode, “Just Say No Way,” in which Kevin’s friends try to get him to drink beer at a school party. When D.J. is unfairly accused of drinking, she has to prove her innocence. In the end, Kevin confesses to what really happened to Jesse and Danny.

Curtis himself later talked about the kiss while appearing on the How Rude, Tanneritos! podcast. He spoked with Jodie Sweetin and Andrea Barber, who played Stephanie and Kimmy on the show, respectively.

During the conversation, it was acknowledged that the kiss wasn’t just the first for D.J., but for Bure, as well. Curtis revealed this was explained to him during the audition process. As he shared, “I was excited to get the audition, and they had said that I was gonna be Candace’s first kiss.”

“So, when I came in and did the table read with you guys first thing, I took this seriously. I knew that this was a big moment.”

Filming The Kiss Was The Easy Part For Curtis

Curtis also assured that he and Bure got along well offscreen. As he explained, “It was pretty great between Candace and I right off the bat.” He continued, “There was an exciting week leading up to the infamous kiss.”

However, filming the kiss proved to be a bit of a challenge. Curtis shared, “The night that we filmed it, we actually had to get it with audience and then without audience, because [Full House series creator] Jeff Franklin wanted one take of the audience going, ‘Woooh.’”

Curtis also noted that he and Bure became “friends” after filming their two episodes together. “We were talking on the phone and giggling and laughing and having fun. I remember the last thing that she and I said to each other was, ‘We’ll see you at the wrap party,’” he noted.

However, it turned out that wrap party would be more of a challenge for Curtis than kiss scene. He explained, while there, “I literally froze, and I could not go over there and even say hi to her.” He continued, “I haven’t choked like that ever, before or since. So, I have no idea what hit me, but I just went, ‘Oh my god!’ It totally should not have been a big deal. But, for whatever reason, I just went, ‘Oh, boy.’”

As noted by E! News, Sweetin and Barber assured him that Bure had fond memories of him. However, Curtis admitted, “I haven’t said hi to her since.”
